I listened to you and succeeded, then I stopped. Now what?

So there's some instances (I hope it's not a trend) where people will come to us either in the form of PM's or through threads in our group where the following happens:
1) OP wants advice on their specific situation. Usually intake/training related specifically for fat loss.
2) OP gets advice.
3) OP takes our advice and has success and starts losing again.
4) OP decides to do something other than what was advised.
5) OP stops making progress.
6) OP PM's us or makes a new thread or a reply asking for help.
So I'm just going to put this out there. If you have gotten feedback and tried it and it's working, and then your progress stops, you might want to check to make sure you're still executing properly.
Hint:

I've seen this in a couple of different threads and I've seen this in a few different PM's. Now in some cases, progress will certainly slow or stop even when you ARE executing the plan (and in these situations the plan may need adjustment, but that's aside from the point of this thread). The purpose of this post is to point out that in some cases, all that's happened is that you are no longer executing the plan, be it through intentional changes to the plan, or tracking inaccuracies or expenditure decreases or other.
The purpose of this thread is specifically to point out that we are seeing this occur. Perhaps awareness of this may help decrease it?
Corrective steps:
1) Read what we originally said.
2) Do it.
3) Wait. Probably a couple of weeks.
4) Go back and make sure you did 1) and 2) correctly.
5) If it's not working, then come to us for additional help.
In most threads we will make an effort to assign a follow up time.

Can you please cook the food for me, and then feed it to me, and then lift the weights for me? Thanks. :happy:0

Weight loss is a science. When you remove the variables (mainly emotional or mental), and concentrate on only the results, you'll be able to track progress better and not get caught up.0

I completed that intake questions and was never told what to do.0

Just poking my head in the thread to shout, "YAY!!!!"
Okay, see you later. *waves*0 -
Geesh! Getting awfully picky!!!!0

Wait wait wait wait wait........
You mean just having the plan doesn't do it? You have to actually FOLLOW the plan?0 -
Can I follow someone else's plan instead? I like it better.0

Did we give you a plan? I looked back at the thread history and did not find any related to intake from you (just a SL question) so I am a little confused as to the point of this post unless I missed the thread.
And of course you can follow someone else's, just make sure you go back to that person with questions if you have them.0 -

You could make serious money doing that! Maybe you should consider it....0 -

methinks I ought to really take advantage of the opportunity to have really smart people tell me what to do. Extra points that one is a vegetarian and I won't be told to "eat meat" (presumably).
Lucky for y'all, I know my problem is that my life is busy and sometimes I cut corners. I just need to either be ok with the fact that corner cutting means this will take longer, or I need to stop cutting corners when life gets stressful.0 -
i often give people advice myself. I'm partial to 5/3/1, and explain it how wendler laid it out. overhead press, dead lifts, bench press, squats. try not to run on days before leg day, but get some running or cardio in.
a lot of people will go back and forth with me about things and pick apart the training. They don't want to do squats, or they don't want to hold themselves back by following this program that only has them progressing 10lbs in their bench in three weeks. Or they hate the deload week (most common).
usually i'll insist once or twice to follow the program as it's laid out, but often they don't follow my advice. they're usually back to PMing me in a few weeks wondering why they are hurt or why the program isn't working. ::shrug::0 -
YOU ARE SO RIGHT!
So - I got you feedback - specifically 'cut your calories to 1500-1550 - don't increase them like the other fools have been telling you -, stick to your macros, keep lifting, move around some more and make sure you're tracking correctly'. I'm still stalled but guess what...when I doubled down I realized that:
1. I'm just not hitting the 1500-1550 cal mark (keep going over) <-- not what they said
2. I'm not getting enough protein (always tripped up by the protein thing, working on it though). <--- not what they said
I have managed to move around a lot more (so that's good) and I'm continuing to lift but I'm not losing but I know why. I'm pretty sure that when I get 1 and 2 down it will happen. No magical thinking here.0 -
I guess it's true of any advice, especially advice that requires a bit of work.
I have been homeschooling my boys (on the autism spectrum) for 13 years, I am always getting questions and people asking for advice.
Same story...
I make a few suggestions, say to give it a month...
They come back "oh, that didn't work for us. What do we try now?"
Turns out they only did half what I advised and only for about 5 days, usually.
Makes me mad that their kids are not important enough for them put in a little effort for a measly 4 weeks.
Everyone wants quick, easy, fixes!0 -
Damn it. It's like buying healthy food right? The nutrients only get into your body if you cook and eat it. Jeez. Too much work.0
