Help! I am on Ketogenic Diet, a vegetarian on 20-60 grams carbs daily (only veggies stir fry). I take 10-20% proteins (cheddar/haloumi/ brie/ cottage/ fetta cheese, milk cream), 70-80% fats (coconut oil, peanut butter).
My Million Dollar Question: "Is Whey Protein (WPI) 'OK' on Keto diet for weight loss?" (total 18 g carbs+sugar- 7.4 grams in 2 scoops WPI shake). Since I am not getting enough Protein (see my food diary), I am thinking of taking Whey Protein. MY TOP Priority is "weight loss" not building muscle, although I would love to save my existing muscle tissue of course (endo mesomorph).

Yes it has 18 grams of carbs in it, and sugars are 7.4 grams. I bought it from supermarket in Brisbane, its called " USN VLCD ULTRALEAN DIET WHEY". The label says 0 grams sucrose, but in the details they say - 18g carbs, 7.4g sugars. I am asking if taking this Whey Protein Supplement will affect my weight loss on keto diet? Thanks.

I would suggest switching your whey protein powder for one which does not contain sugar. I used to use one that was sweetened with stevia.

yes it will affect it, if you want to be in ketosis. Unless these are the only carbs you're consuming all day. waaay too many carbs for a protein powder. The ones i use have between 1 and 3 grams of carbs per scoop.

You don't need to be keto to lose weight. A caloric deficit will give you weight loss. Increasing your carbs may take you out of keto if you go to high. So yes that protein powder could effect you being in ketosis, but if you are still in a deficit you will lose weight. You may see some water weight fluctuations though when increasing carbs.

    what brand do you have?

Take a look at Quest protein powder or optimum nutrition.
There'd be plenty more, but these are the only 2 American brands I'm familiar with.

Sugars in ingradients are - Sucralase, Acesulfame K, Colourant - strawberry flavour. I already bought 6 boxes of it thinking its an expensive protein with 0 grams of sucrose. Hope it does not knock me out of ketosis.

I don't mind having soy, so I have a soy protein powder with zero carbs.

If I start taking 1 scoop in milk cream as meal replacement for my lunch (just to finish the 6 boxes/3kg I bought) - its 9 grams carbs with 4 grams sugars /scoop- and then I weight train like crazy - will I be able to sustain my ketosis ? What do u think Auntstephanie/ MFP friends - u guys are my goto expert - please advise

You've bought a "meal replacement" powder, not a straight up protein powder. Do they give refunds, or you could sell it to someone or you could use it and stay lowish carb, not keto.

No I cant get refunds as its a discontinued product now. Can I use this to replace my lunch ? And at night I can use veggies/ raw food - I can try to keep total carbs under 50 grams. Will that work ? Will I still be on ketosis?

Yes you will still be in ketosis at those levels. Since you exercise as well you will likely be creating a lot of ketones even if you are over 50 g. I was staying between 50-100 and walking five days a week, I wasn't trying for keto at that time but it happened anyway so I'm just going with it. Still trying to get adapted.

Always, Always, ALWAYS check the nutritional data and ingredient list shown on the back of the package BEFORE you purchase something. If you can't see or find the nutritional data or ingredients often looking it up online on amazon.com will provide you that information by way of pictures of the product. Your current protein powder, if you have been using that for a while, MAY be the reason why your weight loss progress has stalled out.

I had the same experience, so first I spent on the expensive Isopure type with low carbs. Now that I am in maintenance, I can use higher carb protein powder that costs less in my smoothies, which I have maybe once or twice every few weeks, not daily. So buy some lc stuff to use now and save the other for when you can handle it better. It won't go bad sealed in its container for a while.
Or, just use it sparingly and work out afterwards to burn off those carbs!
