Waist circumference vs. BMI

Had the first meeting with the diabetes nutritionist. It was a real eye opener. The three major takeaways from the meeting were:
1.) Spreading the carb intake evenly through out the day - never go below 120 grams carbs per day
2.) Shoot for 60 minutes of cardio for 6 days a week
3.) Get waist circumference down to 33 inches

The nutritionist scoffed at the idea of BMI. She said she knew athletes who were in amazing shape but were considered obese according to their BMI. For her, waist circumference was the better indicator of reduced risk for diabetes and avoiding dialysis.

What has your nutritional consultant provided for advice?

Something similar, viz, approx 45 net carbs per meal with say 20 allowede for snacks if required. Exercise around 60 mins per week. Macro ratio of around 40:30:30 for Carbs, Protein and Fat. A carb/protein ration of around 2:1. Emphasis on waist to hip ratio rather than a focus on BMI. As you can see , a not disimilar apprach to that given to you.
