After a 'mild' Jan/Feb it stayed the same temp until mid April (for example: 3 days of snow forecasted for first week of April). But looks like warm weather is finally here so time to get BACK into shape!0 -

Another super cold start to the morning didn't really inspire me to get out on the bike so I shortened my scheduled Imperial to a Metric for a just get out and enjoy a few hours without it being too much, hopefully warmer days to come. Sadly no waffles in the house, I'm just not that organised to get these edible points

I actually did 80 km today but that included my ride to and from the group ride, and I had such a good average pace for the ride itself that I didn't want to ruin that by having my slow ride home decrease the speedy average so I stopped and then started my computer
:-)
So 70.6 km is my Strava claim

20.04.2016 La Flèche Wallonne
The first of two Belgian Ardennes classics, La Flèche Wallonne (the Walloon Arrow) is today normally held mid-week between the Amstel Gold Race and Liège–Bastogne–Liège. At one time, La Flèche Wallonne and Liège–Bastogne–Liège were run on successive days as "Le Weekend Ardennais"
La Flèche Wallonne was created to boost the sales of a newspaper Les Sports during the 1930s and was first run in 1936. While perhaps not as revered as one of the Classic 'Monuments', the race is widely regarded as a Classic, and featured on the UCI Road World Cup and UCI ProTour. It became part of the UCI World Ranking calendar in 2009.
Like many cycle race events, the course has altered considerably over the years, both in route and length. The event was first run on roads from Tournai to Liège (growing from 236 km to 300 km - its longest ever distance - in 1938), after which Mons became the starting point. From 1948, the race started at Charleroi; from 1960 the event ran in the opposite direction, starting at Liège and finishing at Charleroi (or, from 1965, Marcinelle). Some years have seen the event start and finish in the same place: Verviers (1974–1978) or Huy (1983–1985). From 1986, the race started in Spa and finished in Huy. Since 1990, the race distance has not exceeded 210 km.
Today, the 199.5 km event starts in Charleroi and heads east to Huy, where the riders do three laps of a tough circuit including the steep Mur de Huy (The wall of Huy) climb, with several sections steeper than 15% and up to 26% on one section. The finish is at the top of the Mur after the third ascent.

Once again, I'm keeping spot prizes simple this ride, as with most of the mid-week rides, there's not really been any chance for anyone to pre-prepare and seek out strange foreign foodstuffs...
Snacks - chocolate
Recovery Drink - Any Belgian Beer / Cidre / Other Alcohol.
Ride Photo Bonus - in-keeping with the name La Flèche Wallonne (the Walloon Arrow) - a photo of ANYTHING archery related (a chance to be creative)
Riding Bonus 1pt per 500m of climbing, up to a maximum of 3pts for 1500m or above. Ascents taken from Strava. No Gradient % requirement, just metres gained.

Garmin link for my ride https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1129483504
Garmin in its wisdom gave it a date stamp of 02/05/16. I guess I shall just have to wait a few more days until it appears in Strava!0 -

ah, that's easily fixed... PM me an email address and I'll send you a date fixed version of the ride that's on Garmin Connect (I've already fixed it, took about 30 seconds...)
sadly, its going to be too late to include for this weekends stuff, but at least it'll keep your logs on strava etc correct...

downloaded a .TCX version of the Garmin Ride, and it's well screwed... ride date is okay, but the "clock" dates against all the events were wrong - as Ruth said, they're all set on 2nd May... easy "search and replace" fix in a .TCX file though, and the resulting fixed TCX should upload perfectly into strava (it went into GoldenCheetah on my PC, and that's WAY more picky than Strava's import filter...)

Beautiful spring day, sunny and bright, enough of a breeze to move the air around and let you smell the countryside, without it feeling like you're riding into a brick wall...
Normal route deviated from because of a railway level crossing closure, which ended up making a big detour, and deterred me from adding the extra loop that i'd originally intended to drop in - still, nearly 70km on a school-day isn't too bad I guess. Might not be in the last 2-3 riders today, if I'm not careful.
Tenuous proof of "archery related" photo in Strava - where i'd be without that grotty pub in Pontefract "The Robin Hood" I don't know... it's a dive, but it's got me 3 bonus points so far IIRC.
Chocolate isn't going to happen, not enough kCals burned for that AND a beer... and the Beer kind of relies on my not overdoing it for my Dinner... Proof to be added later if I decide to indulge.

Today's ride was through an area near where I live that is called Santa Luz
The average 'family home' in the 'neighborhood' is probably anywhere between 5,000 to 10,000 square feet, (no exaggeration) they are built I believe in Italian style, it's an amazing neighborhood with fantastic views and photos do not do it justice, so I didn't take any, the pictures on my Strava ....
The flower is from my beach workout this morning and I thought it was so pretty that I needed to share it, and the other photo is just one of the tree lined roads we were on in another rich area called Rancho Santa Fe -
Nothing going on for extra points in the photo department.
Just a nice day of riding0 -

My Wahoo speed sensor was not picked up the first half (out leg) of my ride ... this should have been 15 km and almost 200m of climbing ... but Strava rules so I'll post it.
