Doing what I am supposed to do... Getting frustrated!!!

A week and a half ago I started cutting my carbs and getting more active. I have not been going to the gym or anything, but I am up and moving around and dancing around with my daughter and doing little exercises during commercial breaks. It started off great and I dropped nine pounds in five days then the weight loss stopped. I have since plateaued for a couple days and then when I stepped on the scale this morning I am actually up two pounds. I have not cheated or anything and I am obese so I feel like something is wrong or I am doing something wrong. I just don't know what to do at this point.

This happened to me too at around week two. It was probably a combination of TOM and stabilization after a big loss in week one. Now I'm going on 6 weeks and the weight loss is chugging along nicely.

    Don't give up!

Keep doing what your doing. This is extremely common, don't panic. Ink certain we have all gone through this exact thing. Know that your body is working on what it needs to work on and the lbs will start dropping off again. Weight loss is not linear it will be up and down and up and down and all over the place but the overall trend will be headed down. Many use an app called happy scale that helps you see the trend.

Just keep focused sounds like you are doing great! We're here for you, just trust in the process :)

Holy smokes, you are doing great! You have lost 7 pounds in a week and a half, that's phenomenal! It's unlikely that you will continue to lose at that same rate, so try to be patient, changes are coming, just give it time.

    Patience!

Your weight today has very little to do with what you ate or did yesterday. It is a lot more directly related to whether you are retaining water, whether you just ate a big meal (you'll be up by the weight of the meal), your BM cycle (gotta dump that waste the body doesn't use - some of us are better at regular consistent dumps/others save the waste (and the weight associated with it) for a couple of days, etc.

If you're eating at a calorie deficit, you will lose weight over time. You gotta give it time. Look for a downward trend. Not an every day drop. Not a drop after a day when you've been really "good." It doesn't work that way.

Time. And measure yourself too! Inches will drop when the scale doesn't! You're doing great! This happens!

Ditto the others. There are a LOT of ups and downs on the scale while losing. I go up and down a couple of pounds almost every day. The last few days I have seen 150.8, 152, 153.2, and today I am down to 150.2 again.

The scale will move. Just keep doing what you are doing.

And congrats on your successes so far! You are doing great!

Agree... Very common! And it won't be the last time it happens in your weight loss

Just wanted to agree with the others. Weight loss isnt a perfect linear line.

I love happy scale for this reason! It helps you see your real progress among all the ups and downs. This is an old screen capture but you can see how crazy it is

Look at this roller coaster! On a daily basis you're going up and down the hills but in the long term it's all down hill.
    I highly recommend it!

If weighing daily is discouraging you think about changing to weekly. I'm sure your post would have been different if you saw an overall loss of 7lb for the week. That's a true celebration. Well done. I'm a very big girl & have never had weekly loss that big.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate all of your feedback and encouragement. I am sticking with it and I think the most important part for me is that I do feel better, which means something is happening for the positive!!!
  • I was feeling exactly the same before coming to this forum and picking up some tips from people here, very discouraged by lack of loss, and frustrated. Now I feel much better about sticking with it through the ups and downs on the scales :) All the best!

My weight went up 6 pounds on my scale overnight. Then 2 more pounds the very next night. So imagine how crushed I was. I was back to my starting point, almost. Within a week, I lost those 8, and a few more. And since then, basically losing regularly.
