Should We Start a New Week?

Flumi is on vacation...is it ok if someone else starts the new weekly thread? I don't want to step on anyone's toes. I'm not what the rules are for the forum and who is responsible. I'm happy to do it, but want to make sure it's ok ;-)

Yes and thank you Flossy! It's been very quiet lately so I sure hope all is well with everyone, I know people get busy but it's nice to hear how people are doing.
I had a very good fast yesterday including cauliflower, since it was $2.99 a head!!!!! That's right, so I may just have to have cauliflower everyday this week
I'm enjoying this new weight training bench thing the husband bought! It has cables and changing the weights is easy with one click of a pin. I'm able to do quit a few exercises on it but I don't count it them here on MFP. I know some people do as there is a category in the cardio section to add it manually, but how do you know for sure it's accurate? My steps are logged automatically with my phone, which seem obvious to be accurate, but I think I'll skip the idea of trying to log my weight training and think of it as a bonus. Anyone else do that? Flossy do you try to log your your dancing? Or treat it as a bonus? I'm out with the parents for lunch tomorrow which is easy as my mom & I always split a sandwich! Today I'm thinking of making soup.... Hey maybe cauliflower soup!! Have a great week everyone and thanks for keeping us focused Flossy!!0 -

Oh ya, I forgot to add... To the new joining 5:2ers this is the thread that I feel is the best, you start new each week, so if you didn't have the best habits last week you can feel fresh to start over this week. I know that's a little obvious, but I'm one of those that likes categories and this helps me. Also having a good week I feel I can build on the following week or copy a previous week.... Cheers!0 -

@mamainthekitchen thanks for the info, as I'm a newbie I will look out for this new week post, for further support/encouragement0 -
Mama, I log all exercise. I may not eat my exercise calories, but so much of weight loss is a total mind game. For me, I do better seeing that I have more calories as an option to eat on days when I'm really hungry. If I didn't log them, I might feel like I failed if I overate my base calories. Does that make sense?0

Yes I see what you mean Flossy, however I'm wondering how do you determine the amount of calories earned from your particular activity? If I was to guess, say 250 exercise calories burned for weight training, I'd be thinking, what if it was only 175 and I guzzled a glass or 3 of wine....then I'd be over and disappointed!! Oh the mind game is real alright!!!0

Thanks for starting the new thread. It's absolutely not 'my' baby nor my thread. But I like the weekly thread and thus usually start it.
Starting it and commenting / posting here is open to everyone
Having an awesome trip! ! Back in reykjavik since yesterday afternoon. A day trip planned for today and flight home tomorrow around noon. Saw my northern lights!!! AWESOME is not the right word!! It's very cold but have had mostly sunny weather
NO fasting! ! Will jump in on my return home.0 -
Wow, so jealous! I really want to see the Aurora Borealis. Sometime's it's visible from parts of Norn Irn, but you need to be well away from city lights.0

Thanks, @flumi_f! Didn't want to overstep my boundaries. I do like having a thread each week. You shouldn't always have to be the one to start it, so I'm glad it's ok to step in if needed
Mama, I totally understand how the exercise thing can get in the way of reaching your goals. The reality of all of this (calories of food, calories burned via exercise) is that they aren't exact. We are using a pretty good, comprehensive database, but ultimately isn't always accurate. Even the calories listed in nutrition labels aren't exact. When it comes to exercise, I think about my effort. If I worked hard, then I'm comfortable with logging the exercise. If it was half-assed, I either underestimate my time or effort if possible. I try to underestimate my calories and exercise. I've also chosen my profile to reflect a less active lifestyle than what I actually do so I'm not padding what I can eat. I would agree with you and not log strength training because it is too confusing. The only thing I would say is if your strength training involves little rest periods in between sets and you feel there is an aerobic component involved (your heart rate is elevated), then I'd say you could log that as a calisthenics exercise, which is under the cardio menu. You could always underestimate the time if you were worried about too many calories added into your budget. There's lots of ways to manipulate it to your advantage and still get credit for your efforts. Sorry for the lengthy post0 -
Took off the last couple of weeks. Was under the weather, then had parents visiting and then lost focus. Today is a 1k calorie day, but feeling like I'm back to it. Tomorrow and Friday will be a 48 hour fast followed by V-day dinner with my sweetie. With Lent now on, I'm determined to try 4:3 for a while and re-initiating my no alcohol on week nights pledge until Easter.0

This has been a pretty awesome weight loss week for me. The sun has been shining and I am in a much better mood than I was the last couple of weeks. I am hoping I will be back to where I was before the holidays when I weigh in on Sunday. I hope you all have great weeks, too!0

Love your post! You are so right, I also have never thought about the labels of foods not being absolute.... food for thought? (No calories in that!!) I will most likely continue to not log my weight exercises for now, and keep it just the bonus towards health and not look to eat back those few cals. Thanks for your explanations
Had an awesome day out today with the parents and they've really noticed my loss in my face! Yeah!!!
@dryheatfitness glad to hear from you & you've got great plans too! Good luck on the no alcohol during the week!! I found that soooo hard at first but I find if I boil the kettle of water immediately following I more inclined to stick with tea than reach for the wine glass!!!

Hey, so glad to read you posts. I have been away too long. I received stressful news last week and I have been comfort eating a bit to much. The house we have been living in for the last five years is being sold and we will have to move on. Not sure exactly when or where. I think that is the bulk of what is stressing me; the uncertainty of everything. I hate feeling unsettled. I do see the bright side of things...change can be good and it is meant to be. I just know I am stuffing a lot of my emotions down.0

Just a few impressions from my trip.....no question, I had a great week with wonderful weather and a great group. Iceland's nature and the northern lights surpassed my expectations once again! I'm very greatful for being able to do trips like that.
Will now enjoy my weekend. Then back to work and fasting on Tuesday. Have a wonderful weekend!

Omg!!! Flumi THANK YOU for sharing these! How fantastic! Such beauty in our world.... I'll never (unless I win a lottery) be able to travel there so I really appreciate seeing your photos!!! So glad you experienced your dream!0
-
You are very welcome, @mamainthekitchen! I don't travel that often, but I know, I am very privileged to have the means and the time to do it, when I want to. Let alone being healthy and fit enough to have fun while doing it. You can believe me, that I thanked the Gods and the universal energy many times during the last week for all of the gifts I was offered. It is a deep and humbling experience, when nature offers it's beauty in its purest form.0

Gorgeous photos! Wonderful memories for sure. The kids and I (but not my husband) have next week off from school. We are staying close to home and trying to keep spending to a minimum so we can enjoy a vacation this summer. I do hope to get out on the bike a lot since the weather has been so beautiful.0
