measuring ketones

Hello everyone. I'm new to this group, so if this has been discussed already, please excuse me.
Long ago and far away, I was on a keto diet for a while. It was low carb and also low calorie. I lost weight, but couldn't keep it off. I think the calories were too low (less than 1000 a day).
I'm contemplating going on a more reasonable low carb diet, but I'm not sure where to begin my research. Are there any books / websites that you all have found helpful?
Also, when I was on the LC diet before, I measured my ketosis with ketostix. Is there a better way? On the web I've found three different ways to measure ketones: ketostix, a blood meter test, and a breathalyzer thing. What do you all use and why?
Thanks so much!

The launch pad has some good info:

If your goal is to lose weight, there's no need to measure ketones (sacrilege!). I know some people like the feedback, but you'll be better served by focusing on your hunger signals.0
