Hi everyone I just wanted to introduce myself as I'm new to the group. I have played around with low carb in the past but always fell of the wagon mostly due to other people comments on how "it's not healthy", "you're gonna have a heart attack" blah blah blah. But I always liked LC and did well on it because it keeps the hangryness and my intense sugar cravings at bay.

I'm not an expert on LC so I hope you all don't mind me occasionally asking questions... Like this one:

To ease myself back into LC'ing I plan on eating around 50 net carbs a day.
Do you guys think that with those numbers I will see pretty good losses? Or do I need to drop my carbs lower? Fiber is pretty important to me and so is being able to still eat fresh fruit (berries mostly).

I'm not sure if I am ready to try keto yet just because for the simple fact that I have no idea how I'd eat that much fat and not eating a lot of Protein Lol.

Any tips or input you guys could give would be awesome!

Oh, I'm 29yo 5'4 192lbs and pretty sedentary besides about 30-45 minutes of exercise 4-5 days a week.

Welcome! And, yeah, the sticky should help a bunch.

I'm also a berry lover. I was eating at around 100g/d carbs, and on a whim I bought some ketostix at the drugstore. I was surprised to learn I was ketogenic. :)

In my case, it was mostly due to exercise. So if you're exercising and targeting 50g carbs, give yourself a little thrill with some ketostix in a few days. :)

Bottom line: find the target that works for you. You already know the effect you're looking for in terms of hunger and cravings. A lot of people find that their carb intake drops off the longer they stay low carb. Carbs just become less interesting. Well, except for me and berries. :)

There isn't a way to predict how much weight you will lose in any amount of time. We have some here who lose fast , and some of us lose slowly. Try not to let the number on the scale be your only motivation! Measure yourself, watch how your clothes fit, and lay attention to how you feel! These have been great motivation, since the scale let's you down!

Welcome to the group! The Launch Pad is a wonderful resource! Read, and ask questions as you need to!

There's a funny little video in this thread you'll get a giggle out of.

Ultimately what's going to create weight loss is what you can keep doing. With that said, many people find they surprise themselves when starting at a more moderate carb limit because initially it seems difficult, they sometimes find their way to Keto because it's not that hard once you get going and train your body to prefer fat for energy. You tend to lose all those cravings and cutting back isn't so hard anymore. The level at which you reach that will be different from one person to another. It does seem to generally be lower carb when insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome exists. And insulin resistance must be waaaaaay more common than we can imagine. If the CDC estimates that more than 1 out of every 3 people are pre diabetic and IR precedes pre diabetes... Then it's only logical to at least figure the same ratio of people are at various degrees insulin resistance.

Anyway, losing weight will happen at a rate your body ultimately decides to allow it. If you are able to achieve control of your appetite so that you eat only when you're hungry at 50g or more, then you'll do just fine. Cutting carbs back further wouldn't make you lose faster. The goal is to gain control so that you can eat what you know is good for you and don't find yourself hangry and losing control to unchecked cravings.

Thank you guys!! I'm not super pressed on seeing the scale move super fast. I mean yea I want that but also how my clothes fit and how I feel are also important!

Thanks for all the great advice :)

You've got the right idea then. I'm sure you'll do just fine. You seem to understand your body's needs and have learned to listen to some of its signals and have a realistic expectation. That's a recipe for success!
