But 'ppears to be groundbreaking in some circles :)

"The research results are ground breaking," Associate Professor Grant Brinkworth, principal research scientist at the CSIRO said.

"Health professionals have been divided over the best dietary approach for managing type 2 diabetes, and the ongoing uncertainty is a hotly debated topic amongst clinicians and researchers.

"The most amazing benefit of the low carbohydrate diet was the reduction in the patient’s medication levels, which was more than double the amount than the volunteers following the lifestyle program with the high-carbohydrate diet plan.

"Some of the participants managed to cease their medications altogether, and many described the study as life changing.

"This research shows that traditional dietary approaches for managing type 2 diabetes could be outdated, we really need to review the current dietary guidelines if we are serious about using the latest scientific evidence to reduce the impact of the disease."

(emphasis mine) - ya think?

The note at the end is funny.... Apparently low carb diets are currently not available to consumers at this time. LOL
NOTE: The low-carbohydrate diet and exercise program for type 2 diabetes is currently undergoing further development, and is not commercially available to consumers at this time. The program incorporates three key elements, the low-carb, higher protein and unsaturated fat eating pattern, a supervised exercise program and oversight from a physician. We are currently in discussions with industry stakeholders with the view to develop a fully integrated package. Further updates on the commercial availability of the program will be provided in due course.

I'm sorry but you can't just say stuff without providing a source to back it up. I mean, people will believe you and next thing you know they are falling off the edge of the earth! Way. To. Go.

Better work fast to make sure they hit the market first with some food database that lets you track carb, protein, and fat intake.

uh . . . oops. Better late, than never?

It's because the masses think it's not food unless it has a bar code. If there's no barcode, then it's just food ingredients!

This is going to piss off a lot of stakeholders. Diabetes is a $55 billion industry.

The wall is coming down. Next, they may find a "groundbreaking" cure for heart disease. :)

But in Australia, they still don't agree:

It is a mouse study. http://www.nature.com/nutd/journal/v6/n2/abs/nutd20162a.html

And the google search on the article is full of sites just copying and blaring out the scary headlines...

    I am not a mouse!

Does your inner mouse have its mini-stomach yet?
