Turmeric & Golden Milk

Hi all,

I've been on synthroid since 09 (partial thyroidectomy in 08 due to large mass on right portion of thyroid) & keeping control of my weight has been an uphill battle ever since. I've gained 70 pounds in 8 years & my weight just seems to keep climbing. I had a baby 3 months ago & only gained 25 pounds & have lost 18 of that but I still have a long way to go. I go to my doctor every six months to get my levels tested & am always told that my thyroid levels are within normal range (my dosage of synthroid has only been up once). However, I've felt like crap for the past eight years since starting meds (low energy, depressed, anxiety, & I used to have really bad panic attacks which have gotten better unless I am stressed & they hit me strong again). I've been to 4 different doctors & they've never really helped me find some solutions as to these side effects aside from giving me a sheet of paper with a diet plan or prescribing me zanax for the anxiety. I recently moved out of state & am in the process of looking for a new doctor which I am dreading going to because I am always made to feel that this is all in my head & I get chastised about my weight.

Anyway, long story to the point, I don't plan on stopping my meds but I am looking for some natural remedies to help deal with my thyroid issues & I have been reading up on golden milk with turmeric & how turmeric can help with thyroid issues. Has anyone ever used or uses turmeric and/or golden milk? If so, could you please share your experiences with it (good or bad). Thanks!

Good that you are not considering stopping your meds - that will only make things worse. How long have you been on MFP? Welcome!

You mention that your levels are normal, but get to know these numbers and keep track on your own for your full thyroid panel. TSH should be under 2.0 mIU/L with your medical history.

Cannot speak to the supplements and generally not in favor, but I work in pharma and just have not seen much in the way of objective evidence supporting the use. If it works for you, more power to you.
