I was afraid my GP wouldn't be supportive

Some of you know that I am recovering from a nasty car crash and have several kinds of symptoms, and put on a lot of weight in the months since the crash. My last visit to my GP was the day before I decided to change how I eat (just 19 days ago), so I hadn't discussed it with him. I was worried that he might not be supportive, or would be upset for not consulting with him first. So I told him that I started eating an "anti-inflammatory" diet (which is true!), then used the word "paleo". He was totally supportive! I was surprised.
And I was happy to be able to tell him that I've already dropped 6 kg (weight loss is essential because of problems with my joints). I've just met my first mini-goal of getting under 80 kg. Anyway, it was very nice that he understood what I'm doing and why. I'm sure not everyone does.

That's wonderful! Support from physicians is important!
Congratulations on your great start too!! WOO HOO!0 -
I agree having the support of your medical professional(s) is fantastic!!! It is really refreshing to NOT be fed the standard BS about "heart healthy grains" and other such nonsense. Our doc is the one who introduced us to "lower carb" eating (his plan is 100g carbs MAX and 100g protein MIN {for women; 200g protein for men} per day), and as I've started to play with much lower carb numbers he's been fully on board. Love it!!0

I was also pleasantly surprised that my GP was on board with the diet. She feels it's anti-inflammatory and beneficial. My rheumatologists isn't 100% about keto...she thinks you need more vegetables and fruits but she says she wouldn't discourage a patient from a diet that is making their joints feel better. Recently I had to see a cardiologist because I have tachycardia and I expected to hear some crap about too much fat when I told him about the diet but all he said was that he was in awe of me for being able to keep the diet up and that most people have trouble sticking to low carbs with so much junk food out there.
Funny side note-one visit to the cardiologist it was donut Friday for the staff. The next they were all ordering lunch and pondering whether to get cheese fries or country fried steak and gravy! I'm glad he didn't speak against my diet considering! lol0 -
That's great to hear. It is so frustrating when your physician poo poos all of your ideas. I'm a big believer in homeopathic remedies and alternative care. My kids have maybe been on one course of antibiotic their whole life and they are pretty darn healthy. Of course I would use them if necessary. But it's been working for us. (ironically I am an outreach Cordinator for a hospital pharmacy lol) anyhow last week I took my oldest son to the dermatologist for a rash on his arm, he has a little bit of acne, but overall it looks pretty good. She immediately wanted to put him on prescription meds for acne and asked how we have been managing it. I told her tea tree oil. She pretty much laughed in my face and said that's ridiculous. Really annoyed me. Especially since as soon as we start to see it I see a noticeable difference!
I really respect doctors that have open minds and are willing to look at other research or admit alternative methods can work.
Anyhow, congratulations on your weight-loss! And on having such a great doctor!0 -
The reason I ended up trying LC to begin with is because the SO's doctor told him to do Atkins to drop some weight.0
