Hi I am 6 weeks into very low carb diet , I have been bouncing inbetween nurtional ketosis & very deep ketosis ( based on blood keto numbers) I am pushing very hard to get into keto adaption has anyone's else tried the zero carbs to get there ? I would love some info on pushing my body thru this hump

There are several zero-carbers here. Hopefully they'll chime in.

Sounds like you're very dedicated to reach keto-adaptation. I'm just curious how you chose that goal (something you read?) and what your expectations are for it.

Yes , I have done lots of reading , I'm a huge fan of primal edge Heath , I have 3 children after my second child I played around with the Atkins diet & lost 30 pounds I enjoyed the feeling of being in ketosis and did not find it hard to do , sadly I went back to carbs & all the weight came right back . I'm 39 now & have had another child since, my daughter is now 5 and I have time to focus on myself, I am really wanting energy clarity & to drastically lower my body fat % and gain muscle. I would like to find the fit girl I know I was meant to be & to show my daughter that hard work plays off , I'm looking for a real lifestyle change , grow old in style

Excellent plan. A lot of people focus on measuring ketones at first, but eventually they develop a sense of feel for it.

Higher energy level, reduced appetite, mental clarity, even a mild sense of euphoria.

If you still want to focus on ketone levels, some boosters include fasting, exercise, and higher fat intake, especially short- and medium-chain fats, like those found in coconut and butter.

My personal favorite is exercise, since you not only get the ketone boost, but you also get an increase in the rate of fat burning and feedback based on increased endurance and faster recovery.

I do zero carb, most days. I will have a vegetable about once a week. Extreme, but it's where I feel best. No one has to do it that way. Success can be achieved at the level that you find you feel best.

I do use butter and heavy whipping cream (hwc) every day. I know the higher fat (75%) has been the biggest life saver with this woe! I haven't logged a day in a while, but my typical day is: 30oz. Coffee with 2tbsp hwc (I drink this over a couple of hours, first meal is usually around 2pm and will consist of 4oz. meat with 1oz. cheese, then supper will be about the same portions with a homemade Alfredo sauce. When I do have a vegetable it's usually cabbage, or Brussels sprouts cooked in butter, or coconut oil. I am a gastric bypass patient, so portions....Will be different from the average.

I had allowed more veggies into my diet in November and December, and found that those carbs were enough to make me feel bad, so I went back to zero and am feeling better again!

But yes, sticking with the level where you find you feel best will get you adapted. I believe that when we bounce around with the carb level it prevents the ability to become fully adapted because the body can't figure out if it needs to burn carbs or fat. Then you feel bad for it. Hang in there!

I am intermittent fasting right now ( not buy choice it just seemed to happen naturally ) my bullet proof coffee in the am seems to carry me thru for about 6 hours , my weak spot is hydration I rarely feel thirsty and its taxing to get 2ltrs of water in , I'm really not sure how much I need to actually drink

I also like to maintain higher ketones for the mental benefits. I have been able to do it with a 20g carb limit. My diary is public or feel free to send a friend request if you're interested on the foods I tend to choose. Super basic stuff.
I do believe starting every day with some MCT oil and butter are a big benefit for me. I like a high caprylic acid concentration in mine. But, even when I was just using coconut oil, I could maintain moderate and large ketones with no problem.
I basically fast (using MCT and butter in coffee) til about 2pm most days and my exercise has been sporadic. That's a work in progress
Every now and then, just because I love data, I will track three times a day to see how or if my tests vary. They're mostly consistent. I think it measures lower in the mornings due to a full bladder and being diluted. I had always heard you would test higher in the morning, but that's not been the case for me.

Ironically, I don't think most of us that do zero carb really track ketones. I know @FIT_Goat and I don't, at least.

I agree with @wabmester that exercise is probably your best bet. You're already in ketosis and you body is already using the ketones it's producing, but exercising will prompt the additional biological changes that more efficiently use them while...well...exercising.

Thank you , I'm going to drop the blood metre now , I think I have gotten to the point I can read my body again , plus I won't lie it sorta became an addiction ( wanting those perfect numbers) do you still drink on occasion ? If so what is safe to drink without blowing your diet ? I'm feeling very outta touch with friends as I have declined numerous invites lately , not wanting to screw this up ? Thanks

I usually have Tangueray and club soda with lime. You have to watch them make it. They goof up often and put in tonic instead.

I have a few blood ketone test results from going zero carb. I had strips left over from when I was keto and someone asked me to check.

I was not in deep ketosis (no 2.5+ levels). The average was 0.9 and the results ranged from like 0.7 to 1.2. Or something like that. Effectively in ketosis, but not like I could have been actively controlling for it. Also, my protein was very high for these experiments (which is part of why we did them), talking 200+ gram days and 130+ grams in a sitting before readings.

I do drink occasionally, but when I do, I don't generally sweat the carbs for that day and just go back to normal the rest of the time. Being carnivore, I've found, helps mitigate the problems from doing that, increasing flexibility overall, which is good, because my favorite drinks are a good semi-dry mead, a White Russian, or Bailey's Irish Cream, all of which have a fair bit of sugar in them. I don't really do beer or wine (that isn't mead), so that is generally moot.

Also, you can still go out with friends. There's nothing wrong with going out and simply not drinking (and guarantees a DD, so everyone stays safe), or suggest a different activity. Also, doing something like going to a dance club will help mitigate any sugar/carb hit from drinks, as long as you're out on the dance floor, so there's that, too (because you're actually using the non-fermented sugars almost as fast as you're consuming them).

I hadn't heard of keto adaptation before and am curious about it. In years past I had tried to get and stay as deep into ketosis as I could and ultimately bounced out after binging.

This last 40 lbs has come off while in a state of trace ketosis for the most part. How deep into ketosis do you need to be for keto adaptation to take place?

    Here's a really good explanation.

Nobody really knows, and it's not just one adaptation -- it's many. Phinney and Volek give some guidelines, and they'll tell you that they based them on ketone levels needed to keep the brain minimally dependent on glucose.

Edit: I hate to post this since it's so poorly supported in terms of science, but here it is:
