Doc suggested to me about having one, during peri menopause, had a little bit of heavy bleeding but refused as think it's more trouble this it's worth !!
Also they often get a remuneration for pushing the product.

I had one PRE menopausal, when I was about...40? I HATED it and only kept it in a short time.

Good luck finding something that works for you!

Slimstrauss and Sabine_Stroehm ... Thank you for your input. I had decided to wait it out a bit and see how things go.

I had one when pre-menopausal and it worked brilliantly for me (I had been having problems with PMS and it seemed to even everything out). After the first few months, I had no bleeding at all for years.

My PMS has become worse again recently, in peri-menopause. Unfortunately I can't have another Mirena, or HRT (due to another health problem), but am now on the progesterone only pill, which does seem to help. I did have a lot of bleeding in the first few months, but not any more. I think it's very much a YMMV thing. I was told that some people's symptoms get worse on the POP, some love it.

The thing with the mirena: the dose can't be "tweaked". Hopefully you and your doc can find something that CAN be modified as time goes on.

I'm going to try it. Last year I decided to wait a bit and just went back on the Pill. That was ok, but I didn't get great results. I figured I would give the IUD a go. I see my doctor tomorrow.

I absolutely LOVE it!!! I've had for 12 years and of course had it replaced every five years. It has completely stopped my flow ( doesn't happen everyone I've heard but always lessens it) and the big one for me is ZERO cramps! I can't say enough good things about it!!
