I thought some of you guys might be interested in this. A friend and I challenged each other on diets for 30 days starting Feb 1. He did whole 30 and I did LCHF. I know they both can be LCHF, but I wasn't willing to forgo processed foods like was required for whole 30 (I love monosodium glutamate!). This was just a fun contest, no science or proper documentation or anything like that. Anyway, the results are below.

LCHF:
Start - 226.8
finish - 209.6 (7.58%)
adherence - cheated twice

Whole 30:
Start - 209
finish - 196.4 (6.03%)
adherence - ? no cheats as of a couple of days ago. Edit: no cheats.

Basically, I call it even. I think I probably had the edge over him in exercise. I also had an edge in weight to lose as well. Both males comparable ages. He is a few inches taller than me.

    Month 2

    LCHF:
    Start: 209.6
    Finish: 202.6
Cheats: twice (got to get better at this)

    Whole 3060
    Start:196.4
    Finish: 195.2
    No cheats

We both slowed down some, but we both also could be gaining some muscle mass, but I doubt it would make that much of a difference. In my case, I can see a noticeable difference in my appearance. I haven't seen him in a few weeks.

We're on for another month. Let's see how it goes. My goal to be below 200 for Monday doesn't seem very likely, but at least I'll be close. I would also like to catch up with him next month if possible.

It's looking good. Personally, I like the Whole 30 plan and LCHF. You're ahead of him a bit on percentage (which month and overall), but he's still kicking butt in his own way. That's especially true because he's taller and likely a lot leaner (at least from the start).

    You're both doing great!

Very interesting I always used to fail when I did the whole 30 day challenge on F/b . I used to go back to LCHF after about 10 days .

I've done a couple LCHF Whole30s, and I think the ultimate mega secret weapon trifecta is keto+Whole30+IF

Yeah, I think we're both pretty happy with our results. He has decided to go ahead and make the change, so while it started out as a contest, it's kind of morphed into something we're doing together. It is kind of what sparked me to try LCHF. I was reading up on it just before the contest started.

    PS
On a side note, I hit 199.6 today, so goal met!

Omg, lol at the collection of judge-y faces. I'm saving them for the next time I want to cheat.

Bahahahahahahaha - this killed me!!! I agree, I'm saving them, too (only mentally, though, because I'm too lazy to actually save them and re-open them).

@moe0303 - Great job on the contest!!! I'm with you on the not cutting out all processed food (see above regarding laziness).

@Sunny_Bunny_ LOL, that's awesome. I'm working on it. Honestly, I'm down with the people being judgey when it comes to me. I've come to realize that what they think of me isn't any of my business. But I am trying to be better about it in general for myself. So we'll see.

I kind of cheated today. Well, not really since it was still LCHF, but not the type of stuff I am trying to eat. My wife made a Cheesecake for me for my b-day using stevia. I'm still coming in below my carb limit, but it feels like cheating.

I love that quote! I've said that for years! I always try to get my teenage daughter to realize it too!

I did Whole30 just before I started low carbing properly.. and I couldn't take it.. I discovered some pretty interesting things about my health on Whole 30 though which I wouldn't have otherwise, so it had it's merits! Weight wise - I only lost 7lb in the month, whereas in a week on this i lost 6lb.. lol water weight or not, im sticking with this, and having the (not recommended) sweeteners (but they are allowed!!) along with dairy which was another thing I took quite badly to not having on Whole30!
