Kate, it all starts with a "few minutes" and goes up from there! Keep it going!

Hey guys! I'm Aly! Sorry I haven't responded until just now I broke my phone Hopefully I'm not too late to still be here?!0
-
Alright; time for a better introduction! I'm Aly, I am 26 years old, mom to a super rad 4 year old little boy and a couple American Bulldogs. I currently live in Georgia, USA but we are moving later this month to Alabama (to my husband's family farm!). I came across this challenge group while I was searching through the community posts and thought this would be a really awesome way to kick my booty back into gear and help me finish reaching my weight loss goal by my 27th birthday as this challenge ends just before then! Not to mention my best friend just talked me into joining her in an obstacle race this June, so I really need the extra motivation to keep working out. I am looking forward to getting caught up in this thread and in the activity since I hadn't been able to get on MFP to see anything this past week. I hope this is as much fun as it sounds like, and I am excited to get to know all of you and celebrate together as we all crush our goals.0

Okay, Team Wildflowers, are you ready for this challenge to start tomorrow?!! There are SEVERAL ways to earn points this week, so I would like to see us rack up as many as possible!
The first roadblock is the dance and it is worth 10 points. It looks really fun, is only a minute and a half, and any time we spend practicing can be used towards our exercise minutes!
The second roadblock is eating Greek foods and is worth 2 points/food up to 10 points. Some examples are lamb, tzatziki, Greek pitas, meat pies (lamb, goat, mince pork), feta, olives, grapes, grape leaves, Greek yogurt and spinach.
The nutrition challenge is going sugar free and is worth 5 points.
The accountability challenge is 2 points/day up to 10 points. We have all "friended" some team members. Just comment on their statuses 5 times and post on the team thread 5 times. It could be to tell the team how your workout went, to tell the team what Greek foods you ate, to comment on how the squat challenge is going....the list goes on!
The bonus challenge is doing the arm challenge or dumbbell challenge (or both, if you choose) for the whole first week for 10 points.
Lastly are the exercise minutes. Record on the spreadsheet, team 4 tab, how many minutes you spent exercising each day. If that day was a rest day, record a 0. That way we know you are still with us! Remember we can include any minutes spent dancing, squatting or doing the arm or dumbbell challenge! We have 19 team members, so the minutes divided evenly are 257 each. That is just a guideline...ideally do more! But most importantly, do what you can.
Have a great week, team!0 -
Hello Team 4 ☺
I'm looking forward to this challenge. This will be my first challenge and I already feel it will provide the motivation that I need.
I'm 37yrs old and I am starting to have pretty serious health issues that can be turned for the better by living a healthy life style.
I'm married for 16yrs and we have a 14yr old and a 10yr old. I work from home in customer service so I'm sedentary for most of the day.
And I'm looking to lose 30lbs so maybe I can lose half of that with this challenge. Or possible come close

Hey everyone sorry I am late joining the team 4 group chat this is all new to me but really looking forward to the support and motivation and to being part of a team to loose weight and get healthy.
My name is Melanie I am 43 and pretty much sit all day for my job. So I am up every morning at 4am on the treadmill getting some where between 30 and 60 mins.
Let's go Wildflowers!!!!!!0 -
I agree. The consensus is Wildflowers. (Thanks, Jenny, for suggesting it!) Sorry to hear that you've had a migraine, Mauli. Hey, do you know if there is a way to change the heading of our team thread to say Team 4 - The Wildflowers? Since you started it, I didn't know if there was a way for you to edit it?
Let me try it through my laptop but spreadsheet I was able too last time.
Hi Lisa, I tried to change the name but there is no Edit options or under settings it gives me any options. On the spreadsheet I did make the changes to our name.

I will do the food for the second roadblock instead of the dance since I pulled my muscles. So I will get the minutes for workout as much as I can0
-
Thanks for trying to edit, Mauli. As far as the Roadblocks, do what your body will allow you to do! Same goes for workouts, they can be a low impact walk; they don't have to be strenuous. Good luck!0

Hi everyone,
I think i'm going to do the Arms dumbbell challenge this week and try to do the dance and include some Greek food in my diet as long as my macros/calories allow it. I'm also carrying on with my normal 2 30 mins walk/run following the NHS couch to 5k. here is the link if anyone is interested it gets you from not being able to run at all to running a 5k http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx
Here are few recipes I found for Greek food, maybe edit them slightly to use wholemeal rice/flour and less sugar:- Pita bread Recipe http://www.waitrose.com/home/tv/baking/get-baking-with-paulhollywoodwholemealpittabreads.html

Question? When it comes to the dance roadblock do you just count the minutes you worked on it anytime during the week? Or is it just a one time thing?0
-
Hi, Melanie. Any time this week you are exercising, you can add up the minutes. So, if you practice the dance 5 minutes today, you would add 5 minutes to your total exercise minutes for today. If you do the dance straight through tomorrow, performing, of course, for your family (haha!) and it takes you 2 minutes, then you would add two minutes to your total exercise minutes for tomorrow. You can do the dance every day this week, if you want. You will only score 10 points for the Dance Roadblock option once. Hope this helps.0
-
Thanks for all the great recipe ideas, Jenny. You'll have to let us know which ones you try.0

Thanks Lisa.0

Hey everyone! how was your first day of challenge doing? i hope you are all enjoying it!
I did 90 minutes of zumba and 2 miles run today, i had greek chicken kebobs and rice pilaf for lunch and done with squats as well. i haven't done the dance and the arms challenge but ill probably do it tomorrow.
i've been running errands as soon as i got home from work this morning, about to hit the sack. ya'll have a great day!0 -
FYI, the arm challenge is worth ten points if you do the whole first week.0
-
Hi, I did 2 30 mins run/walk today and 10 mins doing the dumbbell arms challenge.
I tried to make the Greek tomato soup today, but didn't have any leeks so had to substitute some kale and spinach, it ended up very nice. sort of like a Greek lamb dish I've had before without the lamb.
what i used and calories:
1 Tin of Chopped Tomatoes (400 g),
Dried Mint pinch
Grated Carrots 50 g
Vegetable Oil 1 Tbsp
Salt pinch
Pepper pinch
Salad Tomatoes 160 g ( roasted before going in soup)
Sugar 0.5
Plain Flour 10 g
Spinach 100 g
Sliced Curly Kale 100 g

Ok the first day is going great. I just did the dance challenge road block #1 and I had some Greek yogurt I walked for 30mins and I am going to ride the bike for an hour .... Do riding the bike count? And do I just post the minutes? Hmmm ..oh and I'm going to start the arm challenge ...I don't have dumbbells but I have cans or water bottles... I wonder if that will work?0
-
Hi Wildflowers !! I'm just getting the hang of all of this. I completed the arm challenges for today and started over the squat challenge. I did the dance Momma Mia lol. I walked 40 min today. Eat well. Its been a great day. I have a feeling this is going to be a great couple of months .

Shaunie, yes any kind of weighted objects will do. Exercise can be walking, running, biking, swimming, weight lifting, yoga, any sort of team sport....the list is endless. As long as you are moving your body or strengthening your muscles. Just add up the minutes you are exercising for a total for the day and enter it on the spreadsheet. Nice job on day one, BTW!0
-
Your soup looks awesome, Jenny, and healthy too! Nice job on day one!0
-
I agree, Nicole; It should be a great couple of months! Now I need to get off the computer and go for my walk!0
-
Okay. Just came back from a 40 minute walk. Did the dumbbell challenge and the squat challenge for an extra 13 minutes!0
-
Thank You @HASWLRS and in waving Hi to @ruffalicious0

Ok....I posted my 60 minutes of jogging and walking I did today. I ate really well today which is a big thing for me....exercise I am normally pretty good at but the eating is a real struggle but I am glad to have all of you as my support and motivation.....LET'S Go Wildflowers!!!!!! Keep up the good work everyone. Thanks Lisa for everything you have done so far as a leader.0

It's my pleasure, Melanie! I work VERY part time, and both of my boys are away at school so I have the spare time. It is @mallowbar who is doing all the work, I just am helping her out! Nice to see your face! I was probably 5 months before I had a profile picture. I had to have my husband help me out because I have no clue!0
-
Remember that tomorrow (Tuesday, March 8th) is weigh-in day. Enter your weight on the spreadsheet and any exercise minutes you did today.0
-
Last time tonight, I promise. Make sure you check out Week 2 Newsletter under Announcements. @mallowbar explains some things a little bit. As far as the nutrition thread and accountability thread, they are optional if you want to keep track that way. You can just post on the team thread or the spreadsheet otherwise.0
