Hi. I had my RNY 3 days ago. I think my pre-surgery diet was an immensely helpful experience. It gave me time to practice this new lifestyle and to make mistakes...and oh man, there were mistakes! I had more time than it seems you do (about 7 months) and I had some months where I didn't lose any weight and even one month where I gained a few pounds. And while it was frustrating and disappointing, I wouldn't change it because I learned my weaknesses. A lot of posts I've read online talk about how it's important to lose as much weight as you can before surgery, which is good. I can't believe how great some people have done with this! But for me, I discovered that I had to focus less on how much I was losing (well...having to make sure I met my surgeons goals of course) and focus more on staying on the right track and figuring out how to fit these eating changes into my life in a way that will last me the rest of my life.
And I hope your insurance qualifications aren't too many silly hoops lol.
