We are heading down through Mobile, Alabama for Spring Break in a few weeks. I'm wondering if anyone down there has a good idea for some restaurants to try. We did Lamberts a few times, but not a lot of other places. We will be driving down either 45 or 65 so any places along the way may be interesting as well.

Dreamland BBQ in Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile is a possibility. Dreamland isn't as good as it was back in the day when it consisted of one smoke infused shack in Tuscaloosa but it's still pretty good. Watch for the sugar-laden sauces and they'll fight you on the white bread thing. If you're not from the South, be warned that the default iced tea order is frequently "sweet tea" which is pretty much one part sugar to one part actual tea.

If you get a chance to visit nearby Fairhope, just on the other side of Mobile Bay, be sure to do so. It's a delightful small town with a lot of interesting shops and homes. The Fairhope Arts Festival is March 18-20, big crowds and not much parking. We used to love the Gumbo Shack in Fairhope but something went dreadfully wrong there last year. If I couldn't make better gumbo than that, I'd change my name to something else, maybe the Sludge Shack.

We visit Fairhope a lot and at one time had a crazy idea that we'd like to live there, until we found out so would a lot of other people, all of them with WAY more money than we have.

I live about thirty minutes from Mobile, Alabama, though I don't go often because their state tax is 10%, and here in Mississippi it's 7%. So we try to stay in state with our tax dollars! On the bay, along I-10 there is Felix's Fish Camp that I highly recommend (it's close to the Battleship memorial there). There are some other restaurants along there but I like Felix's the best! The Bass Pro Shop has a good restaurant too (Islamadora is the name, I think!)that's across the bay on the Eastern Shore, in Daphne!

If you happen to make it over to Biloxi, or Gulfport, there are wonderful restaurants to choose from too! The Oyster House, Steve's Marina, McElroys Harbor house, the casinos all have great restaurants too! Ruth's Chris is in Biloxi, and Mobile! Is pricey, but worth it to me to get good food!

Safe travels to my neck of the woods!!

Oh yea, if you're going down to Gulf Shores try the Shrimp Basket! Is a good local seafood eatery!
