Hi guys! I'm just wrapping up Day 2 of an egg fast, and figured I'd post here, for those of you who have indicated you want to follow me through this. I'm planning to keep with this until Friday, in hopes of busting my plateau and dropping some (likely water) weight.
Egg Fast Day 1:
AM Weight: 258.8
Thoughts: Eggs are good, Jim! Really digging the egg salad. Perfected hardboiled eggs with fresh eggs (no easy feat!). No cravings for anything non egg so far, and I've been very satisfied after every meal.
Egg Fast Day 2 (AM):
AM Weight: 257.2
Thoughts: Down 1.6lb since yesterday's weigh-in. No doubt this is water weight, but happy to see the water weight going down. Still +2 from lowest recent weight on scale. Started the morning with three eggs, plenty of hot sauce, and cheese. Very yummy. Keep on keeping on!
Egg Fast Day 2 (PM):
Thoughts: Today was great! No cravings. With a busy work schedule, I am appreciating the speed of preparing an egg dish. I've noticed less bloating and more trips to the bathroom today; seems like this is helping me shed some of the water weight I've gained. Today's theme has been hot n spicy, and I've been loading up on hot sauce. Yum! Had a pickle off-plan for the sodium, and a dozen eggs are boiling for snacks and egg salad. More tomorrow!

I love eggs! I did a 3 day one once. Never got tired of eggs.0

Not sure if it is "on plan" or not, but I really like adding a tbsp of peanut butter to scrambled eggs. Just a thought in case you start to get bored. Good luck and I like reading your updates.0

I once got two yolks in one egg, it grossed me out so bad I couldn't eat eggs for years.0

Awww that's too bad it grossed you out. Double yolks are actually lucky (if you're superstitious) :-)

Double yolks means the chicken who laid the egg is young, with an immature reproductive system. We have a couple of hens who gave double yolkers every day for the first couple weeks0 -

That's a super interesting idea! PB is not technically "on plan" since it's not a pure fat, and has some carbs, but a TBSP wouldn't hurt if I'm hitting the oh-god-something-other-than-eggs stage0 -

Eggs are awesome!
I think a huge part of what's making this so easy is the fresh eggs. I couldn't eat commercial eggs multiple times per day.0 -
Glad it is going so well for you. . And thanks for sharing. I always learn a lot from others' self experimentation.0

That's a fantastic idea! Eggs are one of my fave foods. I think I could handle a fast like that. Keep us posted.0
-
I once heard that a double yolk is a sign of good luck!0
-
I recently got a dozen eggs where every single one has been a double-yolk. I kind of want to go back to the store to see if they're all like that.
re: the egg fast, I did it for 3 days, without cheese. Gets a "meh" verdict from me.0 -

I actually cracked an egg the other day with NO yolk. That was freaky....

Egg Fast Day 3:

Thoughts: Absolutely feeling the post-leg-day inflammation, which is likely the cause of the blip on the scale. Started this AM great though, with a quick and filling breakfast. I felt less bloated and puffy this morning than I have in a week or so.0 -
I'm starting my 5 Day Eggie Fast on Thursday... Looking forward to the simplicity... and the chance to perfect my deviled eggs
Don't forget about the 2 ingredient keto pancakes - 2 oz cream cheese, 2 eggs - blenderize - let the bubbles settle a few minutes - fry like pancakes. So good! Makes about 4 pancakes... can add cinnamon to taste. Top with butter! Mmmmmmmm I've read this is also good in a waffle iron, but alas, I don't have one!
Best wishes! Happy that you're keeping us informed, since I'll be doing this soon (it is all about ME after all, doncha know? )

That actually sounds super yummy. I may try this in the morning!
I'm happy to update folks. This has been easier than I expected, and I'm glad to be your guinea pig!0 -

Egg Fast Day 3:
Thoughts: I had my blood drawn today, to repeat a lipid panel from November. It struck me as super humorous that I'm monitoring my high cholesterol while I've eaten nothing but eggs for 3 days. Teehee! Today has been easy to stick with. I haven't been particularly hungry, so have had two big meals rather than 3 or 4 little ones. Still uber sore from leg day.0 -
Glad things are going pretty well!
I did a semi egg fast once but it was only for 2 days. It went pretty well though and seemed to help me break out of my plateau.0 -

Egg Fast Day 4:
Weight: 257.2
Thoughts: Back down from yesterday's blip up, but still super sore and likely holding onto inflammation weight. I've opted to skip my workouts for the duration of this fast, so that we can see actual changes without inflammation gain. I feel like my stomach is a but trimmer. I'm also producing darker on ketostix than I ever have in the past, not that that means much. I feel less tempted by carbs than I have in the past several weeks, which is a huge bonus. That being said, I am beginning to crave meat. Steak, anyone? Mmmm.0 -

That's exciting to hear! I'm hoping this helps with weight loss overall. It's definitely meeting the secondary goal of eating through my egg stock. Lol0 -
Thanks for sharing the experiment. Green eggs tomorrow!0

When I made that recipe it was more eggy than pancakey so I used it as a wrap around bacon. Portable omelet.0 -
I am not doing an egg fast, but I am craving a big steak with butter, and BACON!

I made the best boiled eggs last night... turned a few into deviled eggs too. I had just the boiled ones for breakfast and they were so darn good - the yolks were *just* set, kind of custardy? And even the white seemed yummy... I could seriously just eat them all day long... After three eggs and two cracker cut cheese slices, I'm still peckish though :-/ Counting down to lunchtime....0

I tried these keto pancakes. Sadly, they were not for me. They were not at all like pancakes in taste or texture. It simply tasted like cream cheese and eggs, and I didn't like it. That said, others really like it so there is no harm in trying. them. I may try making 'pancakes' in the future with almond and/or coconut flour.

Egg Fast Day 5:
Weight: 256.4
Thoughts: Down .8 pounds today. Still 1lb up from lowest recent weight, taken about 2wk ago. At this point I am seriously craving meat. I cheated a bit this morning and had 30g of sausage in my eggs. It was freaking divine!!! I've purchased some really scrumptious looking pork for al pastor, which is in my fridge for tomorrow. Motivation to finish this! Because it's St Patty's Day, I have to ask - I overcooked my last batch of boiled eggs. Does that count as green eggs? And can I have some ham?!0 -

Egg Fast Final Thoughts
Weigh in: 255.6
All said and done, despite the meat cravings towards the end and the general lack of texture. I WOULD do another egg fast. My final weigh in took me down .6 lb lower than my lowest recent weight. This puts me back on a losing trend, which I hope continues! Overall I lost about 4 pounds this week.
I don't think there's any magic in an egg fast. I think the "magic" was the near perfection of my macros all week. I don't think I've ever hit 80/20 elsewhere.
What I'll take away from this is an increased appreciation for my chickens, a greater understanding of how important it is to have appropriate macros, and a really awesome overall experience.0
