Does anyone make their own butter?

I specifically ordered some Raw Milk Cream from the farm co-op this week to give it a try. Any pointers? I'll be using my Ninja Blender and want to make salted butter, do I add the salt when I'm blending or do I mix it in after I'm done removing all the buttermilk? Any other tips? Maybe how to not eat the entire batch with a spoon? LOL

Don't use a blender. From what I've seen of others who have tried it with a blender, it didn't become butter properly (probably due to the fact that blenders are intended to...well...blend things, not separate them out). You're better off using a stand or hand mixer, or stick it in a sealed jar and shake by hand for a heck of a work out. I'm a fan of stand mixers for this purpose, since you can turn it on and let it go while you do other stuff.
Since you're supposed to rinse the buttermilk out of the butter, I'd say salt it after you've made it, but I could be wrong, as I've never salted my homemade butter.0 -
Shaking in a jar was how we used to do it , but a mixer would work. Try it without salt then decide if you want to salt some of it.0

Butter can be made from just shaking it in a jar?!? I have to try this!0

I tried making it last week, but I didn't know I had to pour out the butter milk when it started to separate, so I ended up with a half butter half whipped cream concoction, which btw was delicious
I was stood there for over 30 minutes mixing, mixing, mixing.. I thought my blender was going to burn out!

I made it last night and turned out awesome! I added some kosher salt right at the end to make it salted butter. I used a high quality organic cream from a local farm and whipped it in my stand mixer for about 10 minutes until it finally started to separate. Once it did, I drained off the butter milk and then added water to essentially wash off the butter. Did this 2-3 times until the water ran clear. I want to eat it with a spoon!0

I've done this both intentionally and accidentally (was whipping cream for a recipe that REALLY needed to be stiff. LOL). I have never been able to tolerate butter unless melted, so eating it straight hasn't been a thing for me, but I also do not have access to really great quality cream, either.0

@michelle172415 your's looks perfect. This is what mine turned out like :blushing: Next time I'll remember to drain the butter milk... It was rock hard like butter though.
Apologies for the BIG picture. Don't know how to shrink them.
