Surgery in One Week...it's getting real

I'm halfway through my liquid diet with surgery scheduled for next Tuesday. I've lost about 12 pounds on the liquid diet so far (22 lbs total in 6 month prep period), but the head hunger is wreaking havoc on the liquid diet! I've been pretty good for the most part, sticking to protein shakes made with skim milk, broth, and water. I did have a single bite of pizza today, so that's my 'cheat.' Not being able to eat real food sucks. I will be glad when the surgery is done and I can have pureed foods. I'll take that over liquids only!

I hear ya! I'm 12 days post surgery and I'm still on liquids....with another 9 days to go. So tired of soup! I can't wait to have some variety again. I don't really have any advice, but I understand your struggle and I'm sure we will both make it through :)

Yeah protein shakes and broth are so boring! I want to chew something! I might try ice chips or something. I can't do the jello or popsicles...blechhh.

Head hunger WILL disappear after about 5 days or so. or at least greatly diminish. I think the only cravings that would not quit were Pizza and BBQ. I was not hungry, I just wanted those 2 things more than anything.

I was able to buy a quart of Pho (broth only) from a local restaurant. It had a ton more flavor than regular broth and gave me a big boost of savory flavor.

I just started my nutrion classes this month. So I should be ready for surgery around the end of June.

Definitely try the restaurant broths! After surgery I loved the wonton soup broth from my local Chinese restaurant! So much flavor over canned!

Awe I wish I would have gotten won ton broth!! Booooo me! One thing I loved was sugar free chocolate pudding made with fair life skim with pb2 stirred in right before eating. I also enjoyed tomato basil. Ps: I'm 4 months post op and just started eating soup again a few weeks ago lol.

You are almost there, you will be fine! I am with you on the Jello. I cannot STAND the stuff, and there are very few things I can't stand lol.

The 365 brand chicken broth from Whole Foods is really good as far as prepared broths. After surgery when I was in the clear liquid phase, the Isopure I had to drink was too sweet tasting for me so I would alternate sips of broth and sips of Isopure. I had to be on clear liquids for a week longer than normal because my surgeon went on vacation and he didn't want me to go on to full liquids until he did a post-op follow up :-(

I did a lot of bullion cubes. Made sure no pods were in the keurig, popped a cube in a coffee cup, hit the 8oz button and had a nice cup of broth. I got sick of sweet stuff too. Unjury makes a good chicken soup flavored protein powder that I had post op at the hospital, maybe try that? I know it's on Amazon.

I liked the Trader Joe's Miso Ginger Soup. It was a nice change from chicken broth or any of the sweet protein drinks.

Tom Ka from any thai restaurant is pretty great, too. Mmmmm.
