Thinking of trying atkins - need advice?!

So right now I am just eating at a calorie deficit. But I am looking to speed up the losses a little.
I hate cooking and prepping so why I like ATKINS is it appears I could just go buy premade meals, shakes, frozen lunches, etc and throw them in the fridge - then only have to cook one healthy meal (dinner).
Does that sound right - was thinking about trying it for a week - doing something like this (dinner would vary each day):
BREAKFAST (Atkins Shake - High Protein)
AM SNACK (Atkins snack bar)
LUNCH (Atkins frozen meal)
PM SNACK (enduldge Atkins snack)
DINNER (chicken breast + broccoli and cauliflower)

You may be able to lose weight this way but I have found that "products" actually slow weight loss. They often weren't any easier than doing my own thing and certainly more expensvie. Check out dietdoctor.com for a comment on Atkins products.
It also depends upon why you are trying to lose weight. If you don't have any negative health markers (high blood glucose, high cholesterol, high trigs or high blood pressure) then it really doesn't matter what you eat as long as you are eating at a deficit to your needs. And this can really be a diet, ie a temporary way of eating, until you reach your goal.
You have to make it work for you. And for me, it is not temporary. I have to change eating habits to keep my health markers in a good place.
The other thing to know about Atkins is that it does speed things up at first because of water loss but its success is in the fact that you can sustain it over time without feeling hungry which makes eating at a deficit much easier. Weight loss does settle down to a steady pace after the first few weeks.
This thread is not very active. We are all over at the LCD (low carb) thread. 20,000 of us, each doing it differently. Lots of good advice to get things rolling and feel great while you do it. And except for low carb, everyone has a different 'take' on what works for them. Very helpful and very friendly.
Good luck with whatever you decide!0 -
dasher is right..MOST of the protein is soy isolate-- junk- the lowest food value, plus all the artificial sweeteners, these can be a slippery slope as they keep you from pushing to actually cook REAL food.
for emergency/convenience /road trips sometimes they can help, but too tempting and the body doesn't recognize many of the ingredients so foreign..Dr. Adkins would hate this over marketing of his name for garbage foods0
