Keto Fast Food Options

This week has been a little disjointed so far. My co-worker has been out the past couple of days and might not be back for a bit. So while I'm running things mostly on my own, it's distracted me from my usual routine and planning.

Yesterday for lunch I wasn't really hungry and opted for an ice coffee with heavy cream. Today though I was hungry and though I'll just go grab a salad from the local taco place. I jumped in my car and started thinking a burger sounded good. That was my go to in the past for days like this, just grab a happy meal. As I got closer to the taco place I quickly changed lanes and headed for the Wendy's across the street.

I knew I wasn't going to go off plan, that's not even a question at this point. I'm in my groove now so its not a struggle like it was last year to battle the temptations.

I had one thing in mind, a comment @karlottap made a little while ago. That if you order a burger from a fast food place just tell them without the bun and they'll put it in a little bowl for you. I thought hmmmm I wonder if they will. In the past it wasn't an option because thinking about peeling the burger patty off the bun and losing all the cheese stuck to the bun sounded so irritating to me.

So I did it, easy enough, even through the drive thru, I ordered 2 jr bacon cheese burgers with no bun. The young man on the other end of the speaker said, ok that'll be $4.11 and on the screen rang up 2 bacon cheese burgers -no bun. Like it was normal, he didn't laugh or think I was weird or get confused. simple as that.

And here they are (sorry I suck at taking pictures)

Yup, totally awesome. Wendy's has been doing the no bun option for forever, mostly because some people didn't want a normal bun, so -bun, +kaiser was an option even back when I worked there, which was 93-96... Glad that they're still training their order takers to not question things!

I don't eat red meat because of some health issues, so I went to McD's to get some Chicken nuggets. Sounds like meat doesn't it. 30 Carbs there. Add the BBQ sauce sauce for another 30 carbs and I'm at my limit for the day. Oops! NOT a good option.

Oh no :( probably still better than what my previous choices would've been

Unfortunately, they are breaded and loaded with carbs. This is a learning process though. Next time just order the chicken club sandwich, no bun :)

I just go for salads. Most fast food places have a salad with grilled chicken option. Leave off the croutons and it is usually a good bet!

It's hard to eat a salad while you're driving... lol

Most fast food places also inject their chicken breasts (the grilled ones) with fillers, so beware, there, too!

And @Fvaisey - eating while driving is definitely not mindful! Eating a salad or bunless chicken can't have been any more complicated than dipping nuggets, can it?

Except for the sauce I dropped in my lap it wasn't too bad. I avoid eating while driving as studiously as I do fast food. Unfortunately when I do either I usually end up doing both. haha.

In terms of carbs, most are pretty safe - largely what they inject is salt water or broth. I have yet to run across any with a significant quantity of carbs. As to whether you actually want to eat what they inject - that is another question, entirely!

McDonalds fresh cracked eggs cooking in real butter with either sausage or real bacon strips are an option that works for me. I add 180 calories of half and half creamer to each senior citizen size (small) cup of coffee to up my fat calories. I will check out Wendy's.
