ok, so I'm fairly new to this low carb way of eating (and loving it) and i have NO idea if I'm eating low enough carb amounts to get into ketosis, but I am losing about a pound a week for the last 4 weeks. I don't have a large amount to lose, about 15 lbs would be ideal. I'm 5'6 and started at 143.5 and now four weeks in sit at 139. I hope to continue to drop as I've noticed a little bouncing up and down lately on the scale. Hoping it's not a stall.
I'd love for someone to take a look at my diary. I know I'm not eating the healthiest of carbs since discovering dark chocolate I seem to be obsessed! (I'm a former milk chocolate and sugar addict). I'm keeping on average around 50 carbs pr day and truthfully most of that is coming from dark chocolate

If you want to be in ketosis I would drop to around 20 carbs or less for 2 weeks or so to rid yourself of any carb cravings. Most people can be in ketosis with 50 carbs or less (give or take depending on the person). There is no reason you need to be in ketosis however if you are happy with your current progress, carb level, and you are feeling healthy.
As for the chocolate I usually have 1 square of 85-90% chocolate a night. My preference is the Lindt 90% and it's a smidge under 2 carbs a square.0 -
You can also use dark chocolate cocoa powder and only sweeten until you can stand it, not until you love how it tastes. Slowly stepping up to higher percentages each time is a huge help...0

While I can't speak to your situation, I know that for me, anytime I start to feel like I "have to have" something (like chocolate), its usually a sign of a trigger food and I try to take it out of my diet to avoid it creeping in more and more. A square here and there quickly adds up and can stall me out.0

Thank you for the feedback. I'm learning a lot everyday in this new woe journey. This forum has been so helpful.
I'm going on vacation next week so I won't drop down to a lower carb level until I return from vacation but I'd like to experiment and see if going into Ketosis accelerates my loss. I see such large losses per week from others and I'm worried Ive only lossed water weight and not losing anymore. I have a really hard time breaking thru the 138 mark and I guess I'm just fretting that all of this over the last four weeks has been water loss and my carbs or cals aren't low enough to drop weight.
I think I'm SO used to grazing and emotionally eating for a "pick me up" throughout the day that gravitating to dark chocolate feels like I'm keeping that pattern. I know I have to get out of that pattern.
Thanks for the feedback!0 -

Definitely! Changing your way of eating may be even more beneficial if you work on changing the feeling of "needing" frequent "treats". I mean if you think about it, aren't treats supposed to be occasionally and not daily or multiple times a week? I have fought that battle myself, and I guess I still fight it a bit, but I'll tell you it feels amazing to be rid of the "need a little sweet something after dinner" habit! In my experience, the only way to stop the craving is to stop feeding it. Think of it like a monster that keeps coming back because it's getting fed. If you stop feeding him, he will go away. Now, I have mostly replaced the sweet I once "needed" with a cup of unsweetened tea or coffee, so, I do still tend to have something at night, but now it has zero junk I don't need in it and it's more a part of my winding down routine. Oddly enough, I even find hot coffee relaxing at night. But that's probably just an ADD thing. Lol0 -
You may also consider doing cardio to burn out your blood sugar. Not low intensity but 80% HRM level cardio. It uses the glycogen and lowering that is how you get to keto
You can eat less carbs over time or add in cardio and get there quicker.
When your blood sugar is depleted it is depleted no matter how you got there.
90% cocoa dark chocolate is a low carb heart health food in small amounts. If you can eat small amounts and not wake up a craving monster!0 -
Great advice on doing the cardio to assist me into ketosis. Thank you!0

Personally I think problem foods should be cut until they aren't a problem anymore.
With that said, I like a tablespoon of coconut oil mixed with a teaspoon of cocoa powder, no sweetener. Sooooo goodlicious.0 -
OOoh that sounds like a quick easy fat bomb for a chocolate urge!
Thank you! I will try it!!0
