8K Race Next Week, Should I Do It??

There is a 8k/5k race coming up July 14th, so that is 10 days away. I want to do the 8k, but not sure if I'm ready since the race has to be completed in 1 hour 20 minutes. I am just starting week 3 of Five to 10k and not yet up to 8k in distance, but not that far off. My 5K race pace was 11:27 a mile, but this is a longer race and i just don't want to start and not be able to finish. I guess I could always run the 5k and try to get a better time, but since the 8k is only 5 dollars more a big part of me wants to give it a try and see if I can run the whole thing. Thoughts??

You've got to be in it to win it

You will cross the finish line triumphant. Even if you have to walk the occasional minute or two and you may surprise yourself with your timing. I have every confidence you can run 8K in under the required 1hr 20 mins.

I say go for it

I've decided to go for it. Today my run was 4.32 miles which is about 7k. I did that in 56 min. Add the warm up/cool down walk and I hit 8k. I guess I was doubting myself, but I can handle this

Do it...if you need to take 1 minute quick walk breaks between each mile do that. Just get out there and do it. 8Ks are great motivation builders, it lets you see how far you have come from 5K races.

I'm officially registered and I'm excited. It will be great if I can run the whole thing, but finishing is the most important thing. My 10k isn't until September and I am already in week 3 of the Five to 10K app. I have so much time to get ready, I hope by then I will be able to finish under an hour.

Congratulations, I'm sure you will have no problem finishing within the time, and it will be a great stepping stone to your 10k
