Rash

I've been itching for about a week when I scratch I notice these small bumps pop up all over area in scratching then the itching goes wild.
Never having this before wondering what's causing it (7 months on diet). I have started upping my cals and adding different things back in to diet (sweets, sugar free stuff) I also laid out the other day (before rashes) and got a little to much sun nothing major. I can't think of anything else new. Any thoughts?

I had the keto rash when going through adaptation phase 1.5 yrs ago. It was red bumps itching like hell. After a couple of weeks it stopped. My theory is that it's got to do with cells transitioning to or from sugar burning. Could be the enzymes or the blood sugar levels itself. Haven't found any good info on this topic.
They were similar to cystic acne. So possibly they're mini inflammation due to higher blood sugar.
You mention adding things back in. Try reduce one variable at a time back down for 2-3 weeks and see if any change? Do you have any other symptoms of losing the adaptation?
It could also be totally unrelated, like a sensitivity to a specific food item/volume.0 -
That's really interesting...I recently had a rash on my arms, too. Started low carb on 2/6, and got the rash around mid-March. I can usually taste when I'm in ketosis, so I know I have been pretty consistently. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this...0

Maybe it isn't caused by keto. It could be an allergy, and it's hard to track down exactly what one is allergic to. Sometimes it seems to be a combination of allergy, irritation, warm weather, and God knows what.0

Have you been in the sun or heat lately? I've had similar bumps that appear after being in the sun early in the season.0

There's a discussion about itching skin in another post started by @flower1964 I think it's called itching. Someone mentioned a podcast which talked about itchy skin and keto0

I've never experienced Keto rash... I bet that might be it, I've always been dark dark color on my sticks and now I'm med to light color. I will look into that! I haven't ever looked in to adaption either maybe I should look into that. Yes have been in sun one day and got a small burn0

Did you listen to this podcast that @baconslave linked in the other thread about itching?

I had just listened to it yesterday and "Keto rash" is discussed in the last half. They go on to say the rash is not caused by Keto. There are a few possible causes and any of them that may relate to dietary changes have nothing to do with Keto.
I have to confess that I hate it when the term "Keto rash" or even "Keto flu" are used because I feel like there is so much to defend already with this way of eating that using those terms names Keto as their cause when it actually isn't. Making ketones doesn't cause low electrolytes, not eating properly to stay balanced does. Making ketones doesn't cause skin issues, but possibly ph changes from diet changes or candida die off or dry skin from above mentioned hydration balance could.
Sorry, I'm on a one woman mission to defend Keto's honor here. Lol0 -
Lmaooo no your not! You are right I never thought of it that way lol0

I have been struggling with candida which seemed to 'bloom' after I was very low carb for about 6 months. Skin, lips, personal sites, just plain miserable. Everything I read said to up my carbs, so I did a bit and it did not help. Then I lowered on the grounds that candida feeds on sugar. It has been a month and I have waited it out on low carb (carbs between 20 and 50) and it has finally left me. I did use some unguents and ointments to help heal. I also have killed sweeteners since it seemed worse after indulging.
Good luck with it!0 -
Test the foods you've added back in. Looks like an allergy to me. The one have you avoided the longest is the most likely culprit, imo. Hope you figure it out, and feel better!0

^^^^ This ^^^^ its a candida die off OR a herxheimer effect if you change your gut microbiome, for example you take a probiotic or eat kombucha, kimchi or other high probiotic food for the first time. I was keto for over a year and started eating fermented foods and had a huge skin rash on my back and shins. It lasted about a month to 6 weeks (can't remember exactly). It eventually went away. I can now eat almost a complete fermented food diet with no reaction.
I just added "Keto rash" to my Blog #10 Keto: Abbreviations, Acronyms & Terminology Used on the LCD & Keto Updated
Thank you and I hope this helps,

I haven't found out what is the main cause but I do know it's from sun exposer... It's only in areas that have been exposed to the sun while gardening.. I am in 2 new meds and 2 new vitamins since last summer when I was in sun a lot.. I think it's one of the meds causing it and have an apt to speak with so doctor.0

Are you protecting from the sun?
I became familiar today with some products that Primal Life Organics sells for sun protection. I am all for natural solutions, but dang it, they're so expensive!
Anyway, here's a link if you're interested in that.

They describe the ingredients and how they function as "skin food" and sun protection. My natural DIY tendencies haven't yet lead me to searching for these ingredients to make my own.
In good time. In good time...0 -
