First time food scaler

I just recently bought a food scale, and I had a few questions about using it. When making like casseroles and stuff like that, do I weigh each item before putting it in and then divide it by how make servings it makes?

You can enter it as a recipe in MFP if it's something you're going to eat often.0

As mentioned I weigh everything that goes into it and put it in the "my recipes" on MFP . I mostly skip the seasonings but learned they do have carbs. You can always go back to your recipes and follow the weights of the recipe again to make it next time... So easy after you get recipe put in system. I import recipes all the time just to see what macros they are to see if I even want to make it.
And congrats on taking the next step in your journey!! Scales and weighing everything u eat is the best thing you can do!0 -
Do y'all use servings or weigh the pot before and after and use grams?
OP I have all of my recipes in the recipe section.0 -

I typically put the dish on the scale - tare it - and then add how much food I want in grams. And then on MFP, I look up the food and use the 1gram serving option and just add in '50 servings' for 50 grams. That seems to be the best method for me.
One tip I learned for foods that tend to get stuck - ie, peanut butter' is to put the whole jar on the scale, tare it, take out your spoonful or whatever and then use the negative value displayed on the scale as your weight.
...and then proceed to eat the peanut butter off the spoon.0 -

I do servings because when I cook something bigger I typically portion it all out into "to go" containers right there ... I'll keep one serving out as it's hot to eat for dinner, and the to-go's go in the fridge for lunch.samanthaluangphixay wrote: »One tip I learned for foods that tend to get stuck - ie, peanut butter' is to put the whole jar on the scale, tare it, take out your spoonful or whatever and then use the negative value displayed on the scale as your weight.
Very smart! Avoids the whole "that's BASICALLY 1 tablespoon" measuring technique.

Weigh everything individually in either grams or ounces (or both). Enter the recipe in MFP (here's where knowing the weight of your ingredients comes into play) along with the # of servings you get out of it and MFP will tell provide you with the nutritional data breakdown per serving for the recipe.0
