Starting ketogenic diet for 10 days and then on to low carb

Hi,

I want to jumpstart my weight loss process or rather the fat loss process and so I decided to go on a ketogenic diet for 10 days (17.5gms carbs) per day. I am 29, 145cm and 71 kgs. I am doing this with the assistance of a body-builder friend of mine who does this every couple of months for 2 weeks and then goes on to resume low carb diet.

After the 10 days, I want to stick to low carb, but maybe 60-90gms per day.

What do you think of this plan? Does it make sense? I read somewhere that I should be drinking broth, my friend doesnt do so and in fact told me that I should be eating salt in moderation during the ketosis period.

Any help/suggestions/opinion would be much much appreciated!

Thanks a lot!

P.S: I forgot to add, I exercise about 4-5 times a week:
*one day strength endurance training 60 mins
*one day cardio, sort of a mixture of crossfit and body weight training 60 mins
*rest of the days only 20 mins, either jogging, pilates, light cardio or tabata/HIIT extra.

Yes to the salt intake, as you will pee away your electrolytes as you increase ketones. Up your water intake too. Bone broth is full of minerals and fats, add more salt to taste. Make your own if you can!

I commend you for striving for a healthy you, and welcome to the group!!

I've heard of some people "cycling" carbs, but not keto. My experience has been that I felt so good being ketogenic, I don't want to increase my carbs above keto because I begin to feel bad again. Everyone has a different experience with this.

I'm not sure how switching back and forth from fat burning, to sugar burning, will affect you, but it doesn't sound like fun for me.

The sodium is a necessity while in ketosis though, otherwise you will deplete your electrolytes. Keeping your sodium between 3000-5000 mg will prevent electrolyte issues!

    Good luck!

This... I would thing (no expert here) that going in and out like that for 2 weeks at a time wouldn't be good, due to it usually takes a week or 2 to get adapted again? Others will know more on this. For sure up your sodium when your doing ketosis... Head ache or leg craps will happen if you don't and if you do notice it drink pickle juice or eat pickles.
I would do keto for at least a month and see how you feel. I have so much more energy eating this way so I plan on eating <50 to keep me in it now that I'm where I want to be weight wise. Good luck!! Welcome to the group
