Intro and question

Hi Group :)

I started 'dieting' back in Jan once I realized I just how heavy I had become. I tried my own brand of eating healthy, I tried the cabbage soup diet and finally discovered Atkins. In Jan/16 I weighed almost 245 lbs. I managed to get down around 235lb on my own, and with Atkins over the last month or so I've gotten down to 225lb (had a minor vacation setback, but its coming off again).

So now that I've lost apx 20lbs I'm wondering why my clothes don't fit any different, my pants are still snug. I realize there is water weight in there, but I should have seen some changes by now, yes?

I'm 5'9" and am doing minimal exercise (walking). I'm keeping my net carbs under 22g and am eating lots of veggies.

It's happening. May not be coming off the areas you want, like your waist, for example.
I had a similar experience in the beginning. I had lost about 10 pounds but hadn't noticed the clothes fitting much different. I had taken measurements about a week into starting, so I checked them again. I had lost like 2 inches just from around my rib cage! That area wasn't going to affect the way my pants and shirts fit though. But it was a big difference! Also lost from my neck and arms and legs. A little from waist and hips, but much less significant.
So, stick with it. It will start to show up in more places.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking measurements and photos too. They will help you see the progress.

You're right, I should be doing measurements. I'll start that today. Thanks for the advice :)

@aoffman welcome to MFP forums and congratulations on your success already. I got started Oct 2014 at the age of 63 for joint and muscle pain management but am down from 250 to 200 and have maintained there for the past 12 months eating about 2500 LCHF calories. At 65 my health/health markers are better than at 45 and I expect at 70 both will be better than today.

Finding a Way Of Eating is key that works with our own bodies then give it a few years to work based on my 18 months of experience with my new WOE.

    Welcome to the group. :)

I tend to lose from the top down so my waist was not noticeably smaller until I had lost a good 20lbs. I also find that clothing sizes change faster once you get smaller. My 14s fit me a LOT longer than my 10s did.

Wow I think with a 20lb loss I would be pretty annoyed for my clothes to be the same.. i've lost 6lb and I know it's water weight but my clothes are definitely a bit roomier.. They do say however that everyone loses weight differently and as the above poster said - in different areas.. maybe you've lost a little all over and that's why you're not noticing much difference in the clothes yet.. my weight tends to go straight from my tummy and bottom first (thank god) so my trousers are the first things that I notice.x
