Hi- Not sure if this has been discussed- I could not find a previous discussion on this. I have been doing LCHF for 3 weeks....I have lost 2 lbs ( Yea me!) BUT why not more? I am 5'4" tall- 185 lbs ( obese) I log everything i put in my mouth ( did fall off diary wagon on Sunday need to log my food for weekend) I usually net under 20 carbs a day and gross about 25-30 per day some days go up to 40. I am getting a lot of sodium- Not sure if this has anything to do with not losing more weight. HELP! Ideas are welcome:)

hi and welcome! I actually think that's pretty good! I will hover up and down 2 pounds for weeks, lose 5 overnight, and repeat the process. The trend is downward, though, and I feel good, so I try not to sweat it. Also, awesome bike!0

I think that's good loss too. It sounds like you're comparing yourself to others you're familiar with. Like "all these other people lost 10 pounds, why not me"? Well, there's also lots of other people that didn't lose anything the first 3 or even more weeks. Your body is smart. It knows what it's doing. If weight loss isn't showing up on the scale, that doesn't mean your body isn't burning up stored fat.
I don't know if you're female or not, but if so, your weight will naturally fluctuate quite a lot from day to day and week to week. Even in the same day, I may weigh 2 pounds more or less.
If your insulin resistant, pre-diabetic, diabetic or have PCOS, then things are likely going to do more slowly for you. And if you have any of those conditions or any other health concern, your body will prioritize healing over giving up the body fat. If you have healing to do, your body will try to prevent the safety net of that stored energy getting away. It has a lot of work to do.
We gave always been told that with weight loss comes health. But that's not how it works.
With health comes weight loss. Sure, you could force it with extreme measures, but that's only a further setback.
Plus another thing to keep in perspective is that on Keto, you're going to lose more fat and not muscle like on low fat, high carb diets. So every little pound lost this way, really counts for fat loss. You won't have to lose as much scale weight to look the way you want at goal, if you keep your muscle.2 -
another thing that happens, and it happened to me last time I did this diet, I thought the scale was moving very slow, and took measurements, and yes my measurements had gone down, not sure why the scale didn't reflect it, but I was getting smaller , then all of a sudden I had a few lbs off almost over night.0

My scale and my measurements like to alternate progress. If one moves, the other does not. LOL0

Thank you! I did not take measurements. I will need to do that. Maybe something other than my waist is shrinking!? LOL ( jeans still feel the same). Yes- Downward is good- Just was hoping for a bit faster to begin with. Guess I was having a pity party. Here's to the LCHF lifestyle:)

Are there other changes happening?
I have been 7 weeks with no weight loss, but I've lost 6 inches overall and 5%+ body fat.0 -
Something to keep in mind. Don't forget to measure every area. I kept measuring my hips and waist after my loss slowed and nothing was changing. This us why I recommend photos instead, it's a lot easier to see a difference in a picture side by side than with a tape measure.
The pic on the left was last July, I think. I had lost the majority of the lbs I wanted to and this photo was to be a before recomp. The pic on the right was beginning of March. I weigh roughly the same in both pics. I was getting very discouraged with no scale movement and my hips and waist barely changing measurement. I had never measured my upper back though and had no clue it was as large as it is in the first pic.

@auntstephie321 this is a fantastic comparison pic...it really drives home the importance of taking measurements and how fat loss looks like ! Way to Go !!1

I agree with the measuring and not just the scales.. there's been plenty of times I have lost inches and not much weight. However, if you find it persists then maybe take a look at your calories to see if you're overdoing it on anything in particular? I was horrified when I discovered how much cream I was having!! lol - those tbs in coffee really add up!0

I agree with everybody. There is a lot more going on with your body when you are on LCHF then just weight loss. Not only is your body shrinking but many health issues that get cleared up. Look at the thread http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10358330/which-of-your-ailments-was-cured-by-low-carb. There were issues that had cleared for me that I had not attributed to being on a LC diet until I read the thread, which encourages me to stay in this WOE forever.
I also agree with Mirabelle1983, you may also want to look at what you are eating. I tend not to do well on cheese and/or nuts. I tend not to lose. I do better on the days I do not have cheese and nuts, not always but usually. There may be a certain food or quantity of food that slows down the weight loss portion.1
