My ground beef experiment

Day 1 technically in the books, though my calories look awful since I work nights and ate my second patty at 1am.
286.2lbs (my new shameful high after getting down to 207 in late May last year)
275g 80/20 ground beef, seared outside, damn near raw inside, liberally salted
3 cups black coffee
10 cups water
Like FIT_Goat I plan to try and update here daily
I really need to get my crap together and mono-food simplifies things vastly.
It honestly pisses me off, knowing that I have wasted almost half the progress I had made and that I could have been a normal weight human by now.

Good on you! I look forward to reading more.0

I have had dairy two days in a row. And my weight shot right back up. Plus, my wife noticed the return of some hives that I have had, in the past but not within the past 5 weeks. I guess I am going back to burgers myself. Well, with steak and other things. But, mostly burgers.
It isn't nearly as bad as it seems mentally when you start.0 -

That's amazing that it had that effect so quickly. Do you have a theory?

My theory is likely an underlying milk allergy which would explain the weight (inflammation and water retention) and the reappearance of the hives. Yesterday it was just a small spot, until I had more dairy and then it was several more spots on my leg.
I mean, I clearly have not gained 3 kg (6.6 pounds) in two days. So that has to be water.
It stinks. I really like dairy. I suspect caesin more than lactose, because cheese seems to cause it also. And cheese is very low lactose. Plus, lactose is more associated with strictly digestive problems.
Note: this also explains my sharp drop near the start of my experiment. It wasn't the ground beef, it was probably from removing the dairy.0 -

Oh man, that stinks. I'm sorry

Sucks! I lament for you.
Not sarcasm, btw.

Well you've got it together now. And I know you're gonna tear it up.1 -

I hope so, though I have tried and failed too many times since last May to be able to tell for sure. I'm sure as heck going to give it a try though0 -
*pours a 40 for @FIT_Goat's cheese future*5

Well, I'm always here cheering you. Just imagine a tall brunette with ridiculously long hair (low-ponytail) and funky glasses, jumping clumsily up and down with bacon-pom-poms.
One day at a time. You can do this *kitten*.

Looks like cream cheese and sour cream are low in casein?1 -
Have you considered trying cheese alternatives like cheese made from nuts (nut cheese - no dairy) or nutritional yeast?0

Gotta love that water weight drop!
I am curious about the "after". For those that have completed the challenge, I wonder how much of the losses achieved during the experiment will be maintained over the same period of time afterward.
Could we get updates comparing current info to the ending stats at like a 2 week and 4 week point?1 -
You're doing great!1

Do you feel full on that amount of ground beef? It seems quite low to me (I think I may just be very greedy/habitual overeater!)0

I've only just noticed the "like" buttons! How slow am I?!?1

I do. It helps that I'm in the midst of my 3 day work week with 12 and a half hour, 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. (and often a bit longer) shifts. I sleep during the day, wake up around 3, eat around 4:30. I leave for work around 6 and I don't get a chance to eat until after midnight and then I come home and I go back to sleep. I expect that days where I don't work I will have a higher consumption2 -

First hiccup: The two bags of meat I had defrosted for my next two days meals are now taco meat for family dinner. No problem for tonight, but mid-shift? I can get burgers down in the grill in the cafeteria, but they're not great, not sure how tasty they would be plain. I'd just eat more at dinner, but 1000g of ground beef has to feed 6 of us and I am already taking somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3rd.

Think of it like this. You're not taking between 1/4 and 1/3rd. They're taking between 2/3 and 3/4 of food YOU had allocated for yourself! Defend it! Show those carnivore teeth!4

We'll, since I did bear them, I am required to feed my giant (numerically and height-wise) horde.0 -
Day 3:
5.4lbs down (additional 1.8lbs)
540g 80/ground beef, some salted and some with homemade (spice only) tacos seasoning.
4 cups black coffee
11 cups water
1 can orange Lacroix1 -
That's great @nicsflying. I think 540 g equates to about 24 oz, right?0

More like 20.0 -
Numbers correction:
On day 2 I was down 3.8lbs, day 3 I was down 4.6lbs.
Today is Day 4:
Down 5.8lbs total (1.2lbs change)
Drank 4.5 cups of black coffee and 11 of water.
Inadvertently fasting for 28+ hrs at this point. I didn't have time to eat at work last night during my shift. When I got home after 9am I conked out for about 4hrs, then got up and ran some errands and went to the ice rink with my kids (who had a half day). Then we met my husband for supper at a soup/salad/sandwich place. I opted out, then ran a couple more errands and headed home. It was 8pm and I just wasn't hungry enough to cook anything. Heading to bed soon. My fast will likely continue at this point until at least 11am tomorrow, making it 41.5hrs.
