merging of paleo and intuitive eating

Has anyone had success with this, or do the 2 completely contradict each other? If so, which did you "master" first? I read the book, "Intuitive Eating" a few years ago. After either being on a diet or breaking a diet for SO many years, this seemed like such an obvious, wonderful, freeing solution. However, I just couldn't apply it, and ended up gaining around 15 lbs. I just couldn't seem to stop when I was satisfied (couldn't seem to recognize when I was...due to the years of dieting), and also wasn't very good at being present when I ate. During the stretches when I eat Paleo, I feel much better, but have been finding myself overeating on Paleo foods. Also, when I do have some carbs, I tend to go all out......very much against intuitive eating. I would like to eat mainly Paleo, because I really want to get away from the processed, chemically garbage. Yet, I don't want to set myself up for more overeating whenever I eat non-Paleo or even when I am Paleo, because I'm restricting, so I'm constantly looking for a Paleo subsitute for something I "can't" eat, but never really getting the real thing. I'm now reading the book "How to Have Your Cake and Your Skinny Jeans Too", and it has brought up even more good points, and I am really wanting to give it a go again. So again, has anyone managed to mix these to concepts, and how did you go about doing it?

Have you checked out whole9life.com? I found that doing a Whole30 really, REALLY helped me to understand my body's signals when it comes to food. I also feel like it got my hormones under control. I don't know much about intuitive eating (other than what the name implies), but it seems like it would apply to Whole30, because during those 30 days you're supposed to ditch the scale and the food logging and just listen to your body. It alleviated all of the stress of staying under my "allowed" calories and let me eat as much as I needed to feel satisfied, within Paleo guidelines.0

OMG you are so me! I overrate trying any diet, even Whole 30, which isn'tt even called a diet. I read IE years ago but purchasing 'have your cake and skinny jeans too' my life has changed, FOR THE BETTER!!! The past year I gained and lost the same 15 pounds over and over . On June 1st I gave up, or should I say started following the guidelines in 'cake and skinny jeans'. I do weighing every few weeks though. Some days I probably do over eat but I haven't had a binge yet. Their is no need to. I also don't follow strict Paleo at all now. More Primal with a few moments of awesome treats in there too! Go for it! I think with removing so many rules from your life you will be thrilled. I sent you a friend request too!0

Have you been able to "stop when you are full" yet? This is my major problem! I can't seem to recognize that feeling until it's way past full!0

The first week it was tough and usually I didn't. Then as i ate I would think to myself as I at 'does this still taste great???? Is it as good as the first bites?' I would then remind myself if it wasn't tasting incredible to wait until I was hungry again because I could have it then too. I didn't eat bad stuff just to eat it and I stopped stuffing myself once i truly believed I could eat again when I was hungry. A few times I ate while not hungry, once when my exercise was so hard to get through I realized I needed more and once when I got light headed on my walk but for the most part my body is loving it and responding!0 -

I've been doing it awhile and I find that when I don't log in to mfp and count cals it is more successful because it gets you out if the "diet " mentality and allows you to eat when your hungry and stop when your full as opposed to trying to eat a certain amount. That's my opinion only also I read the intuitive eating book by Evelyn Trible and I disagree with some of her thoughts lool anyways feel free to add me as I wouldn't mind having a buddy going through a similar experience0
