New to Keto, question for fellow menopausal women

Hi there! I am brimming with energy which I love, and not triggered to any binges so thus far am loving the Keto diet. It's actually forcing me to make and eat more whole foods and foods from scratch too which is healthier any way you look at it

You might be using emojis like a happy face? It will cause the issue you mentioned, best to use the insert option in the mini tool bar if you want to add anything but text to your message. Please try again, ask your question.1

Why not try creating your message in a NOTE and pasting it into the app if you can't get to a computer.1

Lmao ok I didn't see your responses until just now but that's EXACTLY it, the emoji thing! I guess that's the downfall of my smiley face addiction!! And good idea with posting a note! But now that I know I will try again...this seems like a good introduction to me being a goof yet again! Lol
Ok my question has to do with other people's experiences with carbs and memopause and what impact a low carb/Keto diet had, if any?
I've just started eating Keto and so far my experience is this:
I am 42 now but went through menopause early(before 40) and then packed on over 40 lbs in 1 1/2 years. I had no energy and was bloated constantly and binged regularly on candies, chocolates and other sweets. I became so sluggish and tired and unmotivated that I was worried and went to the doctor. He diagnosed me with depression and put me on antidepressants. They haven't hurt but it still wasn't really helping and I finally connected my state to possibly the menopause and maybe a hormone lack. Been on low dose estrogen/progesterone from Doctor since Christmas and again it didn't hurt but didn't seem to make a huge difference.
After doing some reading I decided to try eating for weight loss but omg I am feeling so much better! Like my old self as far as mood and energy. Cutting carbs seems to have improved me physically too as I don't feel bloated and draggy either. I am positive and excited about the future. Is this a shared experience or is it all in my crazy little mind?

I'm not keto, but some menopausal women here are. Many find that low carb does allow them to lose weight, and several have found the their annoying menopausal symptoms improve (including mood and sleep). Hope you find the same!

Lol me too because I was starting to feel cursed' thank you for that info about some people's experiences. I don't know if I'm fully 'Keto' necessarily but trying out the ketosis thing for weight loss. I will try to get to my 'goal weight' and then stay on a low carb maintenance diet I think. I think I tend to get more cravings and less self control when I have more sugary and processed things
Are you eating generally low carb?0 -

Are you eating generally low carb?
I eat what I call "slow carb". I did that when losing (14 years ago) then kept doing it for maintenance (think south beach diet with more vegetables, and fewer grains).
When menopause reared its ugly head I did lower my carbs a bit. But I still focus on getting lots of yummy plant foods.1 -
On the phone app it'll cut off unless you use the drop down menu emojis. There used to be a thread for women over 50 (i know being over 50 and menopause are not mutually exclusive) but I believe women of any age were welcome so discuss their similar experiences. I think it was changed to a group but I don't know how you find it.1

I'm over 50 and have gone through menopause. I have been on LCHF at less than 50 grams total of carb for 64 days and it is like a wonder drug. I have never felt so fantastic in my life. I could hug everyone and fall in love with everything. I was euphoric for 2 weeks straight and then I got this weird buzzy feeling but I still felt very happy. Then the buzzy feeling went away and I just felt normal happy. I go around singing like I did when I was a girl.
This should be bottled and sold as a mood altering drug. In case you think it's because my life is great, don't believe it. My hubby is very seriously ill, I have a farm to run all by myself and I just lost one of my week old baby lambs.
But deep down inside, I never felt happier and so content. No matter what happens, I know everything will be alright. I think it is the fact that I'm allowing myself to eat fat, to eat when I'm hungry and I have successfully quit cigarettes now for over 2 years. I am currently taking no drugs or smoking secession aids. Maybe this is how I was always meant to feel if I had not low calorie dieted and smoked for most of my life.
Do you feel this great? All I can say is I wish I had done this years ago.0 -

Wow! You are having a fantastic experience and I hope mine matches it! But you know, your description of euphoric really rings a bell with me. I just feel so lucky and capable and like things will work out! It feels good to feel good again and it is amazing to me to think that I am feeling this with such a simple change. Love it!0 -
I am so glad you posted this and that the link to the near/post menopausal group was posted! Just joined there - I am scheduled for a hysterectomy in less than a month and frankly I'm terrified of gaining back all the weight I lost. All my aunties, mom, and my gramma have had hysterectomies (and several cousins too if I recall correctly) and there isn't a thin one in the bunch so while they may be a good resource for family history and symptoms they experienced, not a one of them can help me with how to be sure I don't balloon back up to 250+ pounds. I plan to be the curve buster on this one, so I'm really thrilled to know there's a group here at MFP that might be helpful in that!2

The "Over 50 Ladies group" is alive and well! You don't have to be over 50 (I'm 48) to join. That was the title of the original thread that began over a year ago! We welcome all!2
