You've heard the evil stat: "95% regain lost weight."
That's why I've been hanging out here during maintenance. To keep myself on track. If I can maintain for a year, that's considered "long term" by some.
New study:
Obese people can maintain stable weight loss
This study shows that if an overweight person is able to maintain an initial weight loss – in this case for a year – the body will eventually ‘accept’ this new weight and thus not fight against it, as is otherwise normally the case when you are in a calorie-deficit state....
Interesting idea that the body "recalibrates" after a year or so. Other studies suggest that hunger hormones keep nagging you for up to 7 years. Time will tell.

How does your maintenance differ from your weight loss regimen? (Just wondering, someday I'll be in maintenance too

The first step for me was to simply stop logging and to eat to satisfy hunger. Not much has changed in terms of what I eat or even quantities.
Yogurt (full-fat, of course) is the only conscious addition -- just to ensure a bit more calcium than I was getting.2
