*title edit - Bodyweight routine for 12 year old - zero equipment!

My 12 year old step son is starting to workout with me. I want to give him a plan that he can continue at home in his bedroom with zero equipment, since the chances of his dad putting his hand in his pocket for a chin up bar, bench and dumbbells are approximately zero.

I've found a number of routines suitable for kids, but they all eventually rely on a chin up bar and/or bench.

Give me the best you can guys!

The Nerd Fitness beginner body weight routine would probably fit the bill!

Can you not buy him a chin up bar to take to his dads? They are incredibly cheap. If you could get him a pair of rings to fix to it too, it allows some more progression and early teens is an awesome time to start with gymnastic style training.

Buying it and his dad actually installing it (or even allowing it if it's an door frame model) are two different things, unfortunately. I'm trying to reduce the obstacles to him working out as much as I can.

Check out Convict Conditioning. Through surreptitious use of goggle-fu you can find it for free download (not linking here as I am not sure if there is any copyright issues).

Ooh, good ideas! I have a 12 year that needs to start a workout program, too.

I take it things aren't amicable enough to discuss between yourself and the kids dad? Bad times. I'd just go ahead and get one that doesn't need major installation. If it does cause any issues, it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

Truth is - anything can be a chin-up bar. I often use the top of my kids swing, but you could use a branch or the edge of a balcony etc etc

I would recommend convict conditioning too.
