Sugar Detox

I'm "detoxing". Again.

I've been watching my artificial sweeteners creep, creep, creep higher and higher. In my coffee, in my flavored water, in my MIO... don't get me started on Quest bars! I chopped them out of my diet again.

Today is day 2. I feel like death warmed over. I've had a migraine for 2 days, the kind that cause nausea and the shakes. Medication kicks it, fortunately. I feel bloated, I'm peeing a rather ridiculous amount. I'm fatigued (drool on my desk type fatigued) and super irritable.

How long does this last? Last time was about 5 days. Can I do anything to feel better while I wait it out?

Trust me I've been there. The quest bars are evil, I'll only buy one of I'm busy all day and don't have time to eat. And don't buy 2 cuz you'll eat both, they trigger wicked cravings. I'm battling my own issues now and it sucks but at least I feel ok. You have my sympathy

    How's your garden coming.

    I bought 10 a week ago. I'm out now.

Garden is going good! I have my first real sprout of broccoli today. It looks almost edible  Cabbages are huge, and I have two tiny green tomatoes. Yours?

We've had some seriously cozy weather- 80+ degrees! It's been kind to my baby plants. Did you get more seedlings up?

Ugh I'm so jealous, we are hovering in the mid fifties to sixties for a high temp, I just want a long hot summer like we used to get.

Yeah I have a bunch more, mostly winter squash lol I'm gonna have a ton of that but at least they will keep all winter

I didn't plant green beans, but kind of wish I had. I love them sautéed in butter! I hope you get buckets full :) I have 2 sad little watermelon plants that I hope bear fruit.

Me too. I wish I could grow watermelon here. I don't think our season is long enough.

Girl, I know what you're going through! Lol
I don't if my method is right for you but I honestly would just get mad at myself if allowed myself to feel sad about "depriving".
I would have this little talk in my head where I basically chewed myself out about being so weak and thought about the difficulties of people I care about and said to myself "when what you're going through is as hard as what they're going through, then you can be a whiny *kitten*!" Lol
I took the tough love approach on myself. It definitely changed my perspective completely and after about a week, I started seeing the sweet stuff as a poison or drug and eventually started seeing artificial sweeteners as a crutch.

I'm glad that worked for you @Sunny_Bunny_ ! I tend to already be rather hard on myself, so I'm trying to be a little kinder to myself instead. I realize the artificial sweeteners are a crutch. I think I'm okay having it every now and then as a treat- like SF syrup in my starbucks. With switching over to net carb, I became more okay with sugar alcohols... doesn't mean they're okay for me!

It's just the way that worked for me. We each have to find our own way for sure.
I used artificial sweeteners several times everyday in my coffee, tea, water flavor for many months before ditching it in my coffee because I kept finding I wanted it more and more sweet each time. And I knew very early that quest bars were a big problem for me too.
The only time I have any artificial sweetener now is Sweet Leaf stevia water drops just to take the edge off the sour taste of my 5000mg of ascorbic acid in my water twice a day. I just can't get it down in that concentration without toning down how sour it is. And I'm not thirsty enough to drink enough water to dilute it further. So, it's certainly not to get a "sweet fix"! Lol
One day I became aware that I was once again putting in 2 pumps of coffee syrup instead of the half pump I had reduced it to and I got all ticked off about allowing it to "get me" like that.
I have a real issue with the idea that a substance can control me that way.
