DH prefers quinoa cold rather than hot, although I mix a little bit into the rice every so often.

Interesting. What kind of recipes do you use for quinoa cold?

I cook it on the stove and freeze half, usually.

This week I used a recipe from a magazine. It said to put dressing on the bottom on the container, like an oil and vinegar combo, then layered lettuces, sunflower seeds, blueberries (DH said he preferred olives), halved cherry tomatoes, red onion, chickpeas, cut up peppers, heart of palm (DH didn't like that), and feta cheese along with the quinoa.

He then took the container to work and shook it to distribute the dressing before eating it.

When making a take-along salad with the dressing on the bottom, I put the lettuce on top (last), heavier ingredients in first on top of the dressing. Then your lettuce doesn't get soggy or crushed in transport.
