I'm quite prone to foot cramps after ankle replacement surgery, but my main stretch is to stand on the balls of my feet on the top step of the pool ladder and dip my heels as low as possible. Stretches feet and hammies!

I just saw this thread! Thank you AQ, I will try some of the exercises in that link -- headed to the gym tonight.
Linked in that site is an interview about genetic causes for cramping which was an interesting read. The bit about hydration not having anything to do with cramping is very different from most of the advice out there.
Edited to add that I have figured out the cramping is worse since I started cycling. I need to do more hamstring work it seems.0
