I'm getting started in a couple of days (Saturday). I have my meals planned for the whole week and took into account some outings with friends that I have during the week too. I'm feeling really confident about the food and my plan but am nervous about my calorie levels. I was working out 3-4 times per week, but I got a stress fracture in my foot as a result. Now I need to take it really easy until that heals, so I put myself at the lowest level of activity. Once I return to my workouts, I'll re-do my calculations for the moderate activity level. One of my biggest questions is at what point do you re-do your calculations during the cut? If you're losing weight, obviously it's going to take fewer calories to sustain you... Do you do it after you've lost 5 pounds, 10 pounds, during your break week despite how many pounds you've lost, or something else?

    Hello Smith!
Usually the rule of thumb to recalculate is around 5 lbs. Now, since you fractured your foot, besides taking it easy, you don't want to make a big cut because you will need to heal. You already lowered your calories by lowering your activity level.

MFP does auto-adjustments at 10 lbs - because that's about how much difference is needed for the eating level to change enough when no exercise is included.

Ditto's to little or no deficit while healing.
