Curious about something in regards to fat and muscle.

If someone has a good amount of weight to lose, they can actually build muscle and lose fat at the same time without messing around with low carb, which still does not get around the fact that you are in a deficit.
Trying to manage this via nutrient manipulation imo is not seeing the wood for the trees. What will give you a better chance of gaining muscle...eat in a way that maximizes your workout effectiveness. That is not usually low carb.
The amount you gain will depend on age, training 'life', training intensity, size of our deficit, macro mix, your BF%, gender, genetics, among others.
If you have added assists to 5 x 5, then you are effectively doing a bb program, assuming the lift/set/rep selection is appropriate.
Sara, I saw this in another post in the group and it brought a personal question to mind.
I am currently about 180lbs. If I had to go with a scale # goal, I'd say I would like to lose another 50-70lbs.
Now, I've tried a whole bunch of body fat calculators and have gotten #s ranging from 24.1%, 25.7%, 27.1%, to 47.1% body fat. I think I am more at the 47%. I am hoping to get the following scale in the next month or so to maybe get a closer read to where I am at:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004L6NTHU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A37RGE1MLU3I6K
I'm planning on getting a caliper as well.
Anyways, if I am at around 30-50% body fat...is that enough fat to build muscle while losing fat in the scenario you mentioned?

I have a genuine question and I don't mean this sarcastically, it's a legitimate question.
Does it matter?
Will the answer to the bold, change anything about your strategy/methods?
My belief is that the question is irrelevant because you will still use the same strategy to try and end up with as much muscle as possible whether that's by gaining a small amount or maintaining what you currently have while dieting.0 -

It was just one of those things that popped in my head...lol, I know that I'm not going to quit strength training or working on my protein macro because I want to preserve my muscle. It hadn't crossed my mind at all about building muscle until I saw that post.
Currently, I guess I'm more focused on strength gains (trying to follow the SL 5x5 concept). I "think" that increasing reps to 8-12 will be more ideal if I was working to "shape" or try to build muscle. So if I did have enough fat to work with, it "might" have me rethinking (for the100th time..lol) what I'm doing workout wise.0 -
Based on the pictures in your profile, you're nowhere near 47% bodyfat. More like 30ish.0

The clothes in the picture cover a lot and you aren't really getting a good side look, stomach look, or bottom half look. I know I played a bit with angles to not be so embarrassed..lol. Maybe not 47% but I'd say definitely between 40-44%.0
