Please review the Group Expectations in full.
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10184341/upgraded-group-expectations#Item_1
And re-read the Community Guidelines, the site-wide rules.
http://myfitnesspal.com/welcome/guidelines
This includes:
We've seen some of the bolded creeping in on a post here and there again. Please refrain from bad-mouthing the main forums in any way. This reflects badly on the entire group, causes tension and drama, and can potentially get our group closed for good. We get that the atmosphere in the main forums is...different...than it is in here, but we've been told strongly by the site mods that we are not going to comment on it in the Groups.
Thanks, guys.

- Insulting nicknames.
- Posts complaining about the general forums.
- Any links to discussions in the main forums.
- Posts complaining or insulting the moderation decisions in the main area or any of the moderators.
- Reposting any private messages or personal discussions in the group.

HA! Just like carb creep can sneak up on us, so to call old habits that die hard. I just work to phrase things from the positive angle and viewpoint, leaving others to draw their own conclusions, rather than comment from the less than stellar side of things.... Just my 27 cents.6

We have so much positivity to spread in here, who has time for anything else?11

Being negative just pulls me down. I cannot afford to do that to myself.1

Adding a stipulation that topics be kept roughly low-carb focused could be good too, there seems to be a greater shift to more general discussions lately.2

I would like to see more opinions on this idea before we add a rule about how closely related to low carb a topic has to be. For many of us, myself included, this is our main/only forum. This is where our friends are. This is where we come to share our lives and our journey to health. While a large percentage of the posts should be about low-carb, because that is what we all share in common, sometimes people wish to talk about other stuff and this is the place they feel comfortable coming to. I feel like telling people they need to only talk about certain things might stifle the sense of community we've built.
That said, there have been posts that I wasn't fond of. I've even ranted, in PM, to another moderator about my frustration with that post (or posts). She told me to grow up and not read things I didn't like. LOL, this is why the group leaders work well together. We can tell each other when to let things go, bluntly, without fear. I won't say which post bugged me. It's not really important. In the end, it was deemed something that was part of the community and something we didn't wish to stop.
If a large number of members feel like we need to keep things more structured, we will certainly consider that.15 -
Good reminder. Bump. Bump. Bump. I am wishing that adding pictures worked on Android. Love the Hippos and @KenSmith108 is always reliable for a funny pic to add in a thread which I appreciate. Thxs!2

I like hearing, and continuing to learn (as I have and continue to do!) about LCHF, but I wouldn't want to stipulate that all posts only pertain to that. I enjoy hearing what's going on in people's lives too! I like that we can come here and vent if needed, about whatever, and feel there are "friends" here who will offer support (or a swift kick in the backside if needed too!).
I consider this group to be my circle of friends! My face to face friends can't believe what they're seeing when they look at me, so they tend to avoid me now (with their heads in the sand about what they choose to put in their mouths, the way I used to also!)! So, I come here daily to "visit" with my "like minded friends"!
Without this group I wouldn't be the success I am today! I wouldn't want to change a thing!9 -

I would NOT like to see us stick strictly to low carb stuff. I reiterate @Fit_Goat words...this is my only forum and I'm making friends here. I like that we can and do share lots of stuff. And like one Mod said...."don't like it, don't read it". My opinion is as long as we stay friendly to one another then chit chat away!6 -
I agree with @fitgoat. Some of us don't post anywhere else and feel comfortable posting topics about health or even other unrelated topics.
I think it would be a disservice to the group as a whole to completely limit topics to lc eating. . I think you guys are awesome and no matter what the topic, if I have something to offer or share I will, happily! Some things I read but don't feel qualified to answer. I am always learning something here.6 -
Both @karlottap and @fit_goat posts resonate with me. Some days a silly kitty is just what I need to see and make me smile, others something more deep and meaningful. Especially love the scientific links and supportive posts.2

Yes. Sometimes life is a jerk, and we need some silly.
You all know I'm all about keeping it real. Real is hard though. And sometimes frustrating. A little bit of silly is a good break.
I like nerdy posts to a point. And I like funny posts to a point.
But different people need different things at different times. So I think we need to keep things as they are.
At least there aren't a bunch of dumb "OMG! would you like totally date/crush-on the above poster?" crap. My eyes would roll so hard they'd be permanently stuck. So in that light, this group is just about perfect.
Oh...and bump.

^^^Well, almost my only forum. This and the related Ladies over 50 LCHF group. The trouble is that LCHF isn't the only facet of everyone's existence, or at least I hope not. Can we talk about hobbies, vacations, weather, pets, jobs, and our pet peeves? I'm in agreement with @baconslave about having none of those dumb topics about the "above poster"; leave those to the seventh graders.

If people wanted they could designate their threads "off-topic" or OT. Then people who aren't interested in non-low-carb convos, they can just skate past them. But usually the title gives the topic away anyway.4

Jimeny Cricket! Surely if we want to be a part of those "above poster" type threads we can go to those threads in the main forum. Arrgghh...when I agreed we still need off topic stuff, I wasn't thinking or banking on that type of stuff.1 -

I definitely agree - and was about to suggest that we attempt to designate titles or something. I like this idea for using off plan stuff, as much like everyone else here, this is my main group of core friends and such. I want to hear about people's lives.
But where is the line? Because talking about foods, sharing food ideas, helping others to find their way, exercise, health issues maybe or maybe not related, etc.... To me, that's all game. I don't see a lot of this as OT...because somewhere in most of the posts is a nugget of LC goodness.3 -

Shhhhhhh. Do not speak of That Place Which Must Not Be Discussed.
I don't think that's something you need to worry about in here though. Because I will straight go to the other mods to get an agreement to nip that garbage.
I don't think "chit chat" threads are a bad idea though.3 -
I resonate with what's being said; I identify with this group as my community and don't read the other forums ( except for the keto one, occasionally).
I think keeping an eye on things, to ensure the predominant themes are low carb, is good ~ and that this shared focus helps to maintain the high caliber of this group.
Encouraging everyone to choose relevant/descriptive subject lines (rather than vague) would be possible improvement to this forum overall.
With deep appreciation for the depth that unfolds here3 -
@baconslave @SamandaIndia @karlottap @fit_goat posts
Well, I am at fault..
Having not read, or remembered, those guidelines properly - I certainly wrote a post that was mildly critical of the main sites posts - and very affirming of the friends in this group with amazing information, sense of support, and occasionally very funny things. Apologies for that. I see the value in not criticising.

What happened to the "Over 50 ladies' special needs? It grew to thousands of posts. Never understood the actual "special part"
That became a female only chit chat group , and itwas a daily slog through so much private detail of who got married, and who put in a new floor, etc, and back and forth responses that it left LCHF behind.. I tried reading it for a bit but miss a week and you never could catch up.
Facebook seems a better place to create a chat web anyway. I fully support some discussion of life, which is the point of us becoming healthier to enjoy it, but that group was a prime example of drifting too far off.0 -
Who decides what's too far off though. If a person creates a thread and doesn't have issue with it going off topic, then should it matter? I believe that specific thread became its own group.2
