Fueling Your Swim

I've found that my mom's rule not to swim for an hour after you eat doesn't work at all for me now that I'm swimming laps. I need to eat something with quite a bit of protein mixed with some fat and carbs no more than 30 minutes before I start, or I get the shakes by the time I get out of the pool. This morning I had a couple of sausage rolls, and I'm going to grab an orange to eat in the car on the way there.

Do you fuel your swim? What do you eat before swimming?

I only eat something light about an hour and a half before I swim. Salad, sometimes a protein bar or some nuts. I can't swim with more than that in my stomach. I eat afterwards.

Depends on mealtimes. I don't swim after a meal. However if the time gap is spreading to 3 or 4 hours, I try to get snack about half hour to hour before

I try to have a piece of fruit about 30-60 minutes before I swim, or occasionally a protein bar.
