Where did those extra 10 lbs come from?!

Ack! I stepped on the scale today, the first time in a month, because I noticed that my shorts were a bit snug this week. I have apparently gained 10lbs in May. TEN! I was shocked. I still skip breakfast and then eat a good sized dinner and lunch, often with an evening snack, but I didn't think I was eating a thousand extra calories per day... Holy cow.

I need to admit that I am eating more carbs than normal lately, along with more calories - a lot more apparently. I am eating more raw veggies, and even had some potato salad the last couple of days, but there is still now bread, grains, or added sugars in my diet. No candy or desserts beyond cocoa powder in mashed avocado.

I was even cutting back on oils in my coffee because I could feel a bit of weight gain. I stopped with the coconut oil and butter and added some coconut cream from a can instead. Pfft. Obviously a wrong choice. LOL

Part of my carb and calorie increase due to autoimmune health issues. I have been fatigued and craving carbs and food for fuel. Lots and lots of coffee too. I seem to always be looking for a pick me up and even my 1 hour daily walks (just started this past month too due to a new puppy) isn't giving me much of a boost.

Part of my increased carbs is due to just being annoyed with the current lack of impact that LCHF seems to have on my BG. A bit of an immature "screw you" to my body. I was prediabetic a year ago, which is why I changed my diet in the first place. It worked really well for about half a year. My BG has been creeping back up for months now and I find it harder to stay LC (motivation wise) when my numbers are just as bad, if not worse, than they were 18 months ago when I was eating a good 200g of carbs more per day than I do now. My numbers aren't awful, a few 5's, lots of 6's, and occasional 7's (100's - 130), but they thoroughly annoy me! I woke up with a 7 something the other day yet my carbs for the day before were 2 cups of snap peas, and too many nuts and cheese. Grumble grumble.

My BG problem seems to be my liver. My morning BG is ALWAYS the highest of the day. Always. Fasting brings it down a bit, but it is usually lowest before bed and highest at 7 am. But that's beside the point.

Anyways.... Eating too much, eating too many carbs, autoimmune flare-up issues, a bit more stress than normal, and higher BG (and maybe higher insulin) seem to have combined to make a perfect storm of ten freaking pounds in less than 30 days (about 20 really :( ). I am venting and recommitting to logging my foods and making my night time fasts longer.

I was maintaining fine for 6 months and then this happened. I need to nip it in the bud before I get fat. Again. I am pretty bloated now, so I am hoping that some of this weight is from that, but we'll see... For now I'll just call it unwanted weight.

162 lbs is too big. I need to be back at about a 150. I like the low 150's.

I am looking for some butt kicking. LOL You all are the best for a good supportive *kitten* kicking. ;)

@nvmomketo. I forget are you on metformin? I find taking it with supper helps keep the Morning BG down some. Peas will put my sugars up big time.

Did you fall into the trap of feeling like you "deserved" a treat because you've done so well? Stop it! I've found myself thinking that way with each new low, and have to stop it myself, before I act on it! You deserve to be healthy, and live at a comfortable weight that makes you feel good! Drop those carbs back down, and the bloating will be gone quickly! Hang in there! You can do this!

@Jan93L Thanks for the advice. :) No, I am not on metformin, but if my BG continues this way, I wouldn't be surprised if it is my future.

I think steroid use helped kick off my IR issues because I wasn't obese, or even overweight, when it first popped up. I also have a few autoimmune issues so I can get a bit paranoid that I am slowly edging towards T1D rather than T2D. Paranoid is probably the best word for it too.

Snap peas are a favorite carby indulgence now a days.... Not too bad considering it used to be pop and jujubes. LOL Mmm. Just thinking about snap peas makes my mouth water. LOL I usually don't eat 2 cups worth in one sitting but I still need to behave better and more consistently with those.

Sometimes, maybe. Sort of... It was more of a " things aren't great so I might as well" type of attitude. Totally unhelpful attitude.

I am dropping those carbs down. :) I sure hope the bloat goes within a week or two. Some of it is due to celiac (I was accidentally "glutened" - by some contaminated nuts I think) and I am getting tired of the constant stomach ache. The extra water weight and slowed carb digestion isn't helping.

Thank you. :) You are totally right.

It's not easy to overcome those feelings! I'm glad you made the choice to come back here, instead of allowing the spiral to continue! I'm sure some of your ten pound increase is inflammation from the carbs! You know this stuff! I just wanted you to know that you are one of my many heroes here! Hugs for you dear!

@nvmomketo. I agree that fresh peas can be well worth it as a"carby indulgence" I'm looking forward to our coming from our garden, too. Sweet corn on the cob is one that is hard for me to resist. Hope your BG issues don't really develop into T1 . Keep on keepin on....

Some of the weight could be inflammation from the gluten. Celiac sucks!!! The most important thing is you realized you were off track and you are fixing it!

You guys are great. :)<3 Hopefully this ballooning weight gain will be gone within a couple of months.

I ate well today but ate a few too many snap peas again. Not ridiculous, just not at a low keto level. I am getting back on track. :) Just need to stay there!

Bump with ((((HUGS)))) @nvmomketo I totally get you on the gluten thing... when I am glutened I just want to eat all that *kitten* and the h3ll with it. I don't though, but I do sometimes substitute with other non-gluten things that I still shouldn't eat so much of...
Here's hoping things are on the up for you this week!

    Thanks again, guys. :)
Gluten is evil.... It makes really tasty food but it sure can mess with me and my family. So weird!

I'm down about 4-5 lbs now. Some was the bloat and some was... I dunno. I assume the rest is fat. LOL I am eating fewer carbs. My overall calories is a bit lower, not a thousand kcal lower, but enough that I am losing weight very slow and steady.

I honestly think a portion of that gain was just my health going wonky for a while. For some reason my body was holding onto the fat more. I was eating too much, but the gain seemed more than it should have been. Really weird.

@nvmomketo I hear you. I gained 5lb in 4 days! Cycling explains muscle gain weight but 5lb! Lost 3.5 in next 4 days. Carbs and I will admit treats!! Thought the cycling would burn them off.

I think our bodies do not only swell with certain foods but hold more fat too given the right imbalance for them. Wishing you success and less inflamation!
