First big challenge

Tonight will be my first big challenge since I started this WOE 12 days ago. It is my hubby's bday and dinner is at my MIL house. On the plus he has requested buffalo wings for dinner so I am good there but there will be CHOCOLATE CAKE!! I feel strong enough to initially turn it down but I also know there will be lots of pressure from others like " oh come on one little piece won't hurt". But one little piece is never enough for me when it comes to sweets. One little piece could lead to a sugar binge. Send me your strong positive vibes my friends... I'm going to need it!!

I believe in you. I don't think any of us can ever get away from the occasional family gathering chock full of sugar.

Chocolate is my nemesis so I feel your pain! But, you can do this. Keep in mind that if you give in you'll feel lousy both physically and emotionally. KnitorMiss has some great ideas. I've found that I am quite satisfied with one piece of VERY dark chocolate. If this would work for you, perhaps you can bring some to share!

When this happens to me, I ask for a small slice and then eat a couple of bites. The fear of the big bloat the next day is usually enough to keep me from indulging too much. If I refuse it altogether, I have to explain explain explain and I get tired of that.

With cake, I will indulge and ONLY eat the icing, not the cake. I compromise with myself by not eating the actual cake. I know its backwards but I really enjoy the icing. I can stop with a one slice portion by eating what I really want. We have a monthly bday celebration at work so that's when I get icing.

I don't care much for cake but I love the icing. I usually just skip it though because I have celiac disease and the icing isn't safe if it's been on the gluteny cake. I will say celiac disease makes these gatherings less awkward because you have a built in excuse to skip the cake.

Honestly only 12 days in I would stay strong and not eat any of the cake or icing. For a lot of people here ingesting sugar leads to more cravings. Especially early on in the diet. I find a cup of coffee or tea with heavy cream makes a nice treat when others are eating dessert. Even if you come under pressure just say no. Tell them your stomach feels off and you don't want anything sweet or you are full from dinner. If they keep on bugging you then it's clear the issue is theirs not yours.

After steady/strict low-carbing, I can't do anything sugar-laden. I love cake, but it's not worth a half day on the toilet after the indulgence.

I always ask for cake! Then I skillfully feed it to my grandkids. :D

I'm definitely aiming for not indulging tonight. I just feel like with only 12 days of being in Ketosis it's just too soon. I'm finally not craving sugary garbage for the first time in years. There will be more birthdays and more cake to be had later. It's just going to take some major will power. I'm packing a 90% cocoa dark chocolate bar as back up just in case. It's so nice to have support from others who get it. Thank you everyone
