brand new to low carb

Hello everyone! I have explored launch pad and read guidelines and I'm excited to join the LCD group. I didn't see a specific place to introduce ourselves so here I am. I had success with low carb in the past but for some reason conveniently "forgot" about it. When I am eating a carb heavy diet I tend to lose control more easily and am tired which causes me to NOT want to exercise. I thought back to what I was doing in the past and today have set my macros to 30% carb, 30% fat, 40% protein. I also decided that my calorie goal was ridiculous and setting me up to fail so I bumped it up. I have not been logging consistently at all, failing most days by noon. Anyway, any advice is appreciated. thanks, Susan

Have you looked into Keto. HFLC is great, my macros are set at 5% carbs, 20%protein and 75% fat. I have been on it about 6 weeks and its going good. Hunger is not an issue, its still amazing to me how I can do a 12-16 hour fast and not feel like i'm starving. Good luck with whatever you do.5

I started 6/1, and my macros are also 5c/20p/75f it's the only way I get the appetite suppression.

I am recently trying keto again and my problem is trying to get enough day in my diet. What are some suggestions for getting more day in?0

I've done this a long time on and off. My suggestion is to make sure you drink plenty of water. I lose more weight and feel best eating HFLC high-fat low carb, low calorie.3

Welcome! This is a very friendly and helpful place.
I'm also keto, and have no hunger issues. I stay to under 30 total carbs a day(tried to stay under 20, couldn't manage it). My nephew is 50 to 60 carbs a day and he has minor hunger issues but he also hasn't cut out fake sweeteners either, so it could be that very easily.1 -
I just got through my first day and already my cravings are down 50% at least. I am in control for the first time in about 6 months. seriously -- it might be all in my head but whatever, that's where it is anyway right? I certainly didn't have a perfect day and I think for now, I'm going to do low carb. I do feel satisifed though even though I didn't do all my protein... I did exceed fat.2

Are you trying to eat more fat because you're hungry? Because if you're hunger is under control, there's no need to reach that fat "goal". Try not to think of it as a goal so much and think of your macros more like... Hit your protein, don't exceed carbs and hopefully make them from dairy and veggies and not from sugars and sugar alcohols, then just eat enough fat to stay satisfied til your next meal.
For many of us, starting the day off with a fatty coffee sets us off on the right foot where we start right out in control of hunger and that way we can stay more firmly on plan all day regardless of carb land mines others want to plant for us.0 -
@Sunny_Bunny_ --- I ended up over in fat because I adjusted my goals a couple times throughout the day after I found this community and some guidelines. That's good to know though. I'll work on the protein today. Are you saying a fatty coffee -- so coffee with half and half no sugar is a good thing? Because that's my favorite. I gave up the sugar quite a while ago. thanks for the advice!1

Even coffee with heavy whipping cream! So much better than half and half to me!
Stick to carb counting, then protein has a top limit (for most of us), then calories. But fat doesn't need to be a goal to reach. It's more of a limit.0 -

Coffee with half n half or heavy cream is good but I get more satisfaction from adding coconut oil. Or butter. I have just the coffee in the morning without food. I've never been a breakfast person though.0 -
Welcome to the group. I have been doing this not whole heartedly lately so I am recommitting again myself. I do feel so much better when I don't eat the carbs such as bread and pasta and junk food. However I do miss my fruit. I love fruit especially in the summer.0

Welcome to the group. When you discover HFLC you will wonder where it was your whole life.
I've lost over 100 lbs now at a rate of about 3.5lbs/week. I am below my target weight although I have decided that I ought to keep going since I still feel I have some room.
I enjoy my coffee every morning with high fat whipping cream, put cheese on my eggs, and often have a full on caesar salad with a protein on top for lunch. (except for the croutons).
This is the way of eating (WOE) for me. Feel like a million bucks. Still can't get over it. How we ever got to the idea that fat makes you FAT... blows me away. I encourage you to do as much research into Low Carb High Fat as possible. It is like the curtains will be drawn back.
BTW... I target < 30 grams of carb. All the carbs come from vegetables with the exception of the odd one that sneaks in from a store bought sauce/salad dressing or a fat bomb(peanut butter bomb). I don't find 30 grams / carb difficult once I learnt what to eat for breakfast and lunch. (Couldn't figure out how to prepare those meals without bread for a while).
You said you have read the launching pad. I'd encourage you to read it again. There is a ton of great information in there including how to help your body adapt to be a fat burning machine from a carb/sugar burners. The transition can be a little bumpy if you are not prepared for it. I must of read it 5 times and still relied on folks here to walk we through it.

Olive oil, coconut oil and butter to cook with will help you meet your macros. Dark chocolate (85-90%) is an excellent fat snack as well as almonds, walnuts or pine nuts. Avocados! All sorts of cheeses, full fat sour cream, heavy whipping cream.. I could go on and on1 -
OH reference books - Gary Taubes why we get fat and Keto Clarity are good reads for information. Grab a low carb cook book or two if you prefer a hard cover book over a website. I have Keto in 28 days which has lots of pictures and great starter recipes. People have also recommended the ketogenic cook book, ketogenic cooking, and I'm sure there's many others.
If you want my "getting started" advice I'd say focus on learning this way of eating before focusing on weight and calories, it can get overwhelming. There's a steep learning curve to unwind what we were taught in school. Try new recipes and experiment. The weight will come off. Good luck!0
