I feel like I am doing this all wrong!!

I am on day 2 of LCHF and yes I have a been posting a lot and to everyone who has helped me out I want to thank you. I have been looking up all I can online before I ask so I don't waste anyone's time but anyways....
My question is why do some peoples "cheats" seem okay to me. Like someone posted she cheated and had non breaded fried wings with hot sauce and blue cheese?? To me that sounded fine and when I entered it into my database it was a pretty high fat low carb meal. Is it the deep fried part that is bad or what. I'm just confused. Also someone messaged me on here telling me that I am wasting my time eating low carb but not Keto. I have been at about 40 carbs each day which is under 10% for me so I feel like I'm still doing okay even though I'm not doing Keto. Can someone help explain why they would say that. Am I wasting my time or doing the program wrong??

Ignore all of that. You can't do it wrong if it's what's going to work for you and keep you motivated. Under 50, I think will get you to Keto anyway I think....
You keep doing you and friend me if you like. I'm having wings tonight by the way...5 -
Whoever told you that eating low carb without doing keto is a waste of time is SEVERELY misinformed... I've lost 70 lbs over the last year and a half and have never counted macros or whatever is involved in "keto." I try to stick to less than 30 grams of carbs a day and that has worked for me!!!7

I have to remember to have thicker skin. I have already been questioning myself because it's new and it does feel like cheating eating more fat and people are so judgy if they took the time to write me they couldn't at least gave advice after they told me it was all wrong.1 -

Thank you so much. You have done great. I'm trying to not let it bother me.

Chicken wings are a perfect on plan meal for me. Some people do more of a combo of low carb and paleo and worry more about avoiding certain types of oil and such. That might be why the wings or dressing were a cheat for her.
For most people eating under 50 carbs will land them in ketosis by default. It's not the only way to be successful as we have people in this group ranging from 0-150 a day and all have seen successes! It really depends on the person and their body what works best for them. It's trail and error really. I try to stay around 30 because I see the best relief from my RA symptoms at this level.4 -

So if I unitentionally put myself in Keto and then get out of it by eating 50-60 carbs on a heavy day will it affect me even though it isn't a big deal for me but isn't jumping in and out a big deal weight loss wise.

Try to remember that everyone's opinion is just that-an opinion. It is important to surround yourself (IRL and online) with people who share the same opinions and support your decisions in the low carb lifestyle. Dieting and losing weight is hard enough without having other people's opinions making you doubt your own! Save the debates for something fun like sports or trivia.
Low carb and keto are healthy an safe ways to lose weight. Do what works for you, and make sure that you do your own research as well. Don't let haters get you down, there are plenty of us that think your way of eating is awesome, and will be happy to cheer you on! Feel free to friend me
Remember that changes in your diet take TIME. Dont give up!

Even people on high carb diets can technically be in ketosis now and then. Anytime you fast long enough to deplete your liver of stored glycogen you will technically be in ketosis. Most people shift into ketosis overnight while they sleep. Or if you exercise intensely you'll use up your stored glycogen and burn fat. When people are on the keto diet they are trying to stay in this state and have their body adapt to where fat is it's preferred fuel. Basically there is being in ketosis which is normal for everyone from time to time and being keto-adapted which usually takes a few weeks.

1. People think that whatever works for them will work for you. 2. LOTS of people are selling things. If you aren't using their thing "you are doing it wrong". 3. If you clothes are getting loser and you are losing weight, you ARE doing it right.5

That's usually because they don't actually have any advice to give. While our WOE is as old as man, the last few generations are so far removed from it, and have been hit with the propaganda machine demonizing it, that misinformation is incredibly widespread.1 -
If ketosis isn't your goal, don't worry about it. I probably meander in and out of it. My goals are weight loss and better health and I'm achieving both. Sometimes I stay under 20 carbs for a while and other times I go way over 50. (I have a small, organic orchard and can't resist the fresh fruit when it's ripe.) As long as your higher carb days are caused by eating healthy carbs as opposed to junk food you'll be fine.1

I think this person might have been speaking to it being a "cheat" in terms of their other macros, not necessarily carbs. I personally am very tight with my macros as I'm still in the process of cutting from 139 to 130 so that meal would be "cheat"-y to me because the calories and fat grams would be high in relation to how I have my personal macros set. Wings have a high caloric price tag when you have a tight deficit ykwim?
Regardless of that persons' feelings on whether or not that meal was a cheat as long as you're keeping your carbs down to the level you've deemed acceptable and are happy with how you have your other macros proportioned you'll be fine. Hang in there!1 -
Thank you guys! Love the support. I will try to have tougher skin. I have felt great today and barely hungry compared to my high carb lifestyle before and it is so encouraging to know there are people backing me and wanting me to feel as good as I can.6

Screw the judgy people. You are right, they are out there. One of my VERY best friends gave me the 3rd degree and I shrugged it off as uniformed. I am a nurse and it took a while before I fully embraced the "eat fat to be healthy" mentality. It was hard at first but results speak for themselves. I've not yet had labs done but there are so many people here on this group that have and share their successes. It's amazing. What I can speak to is how good I feel, how satiated I am and the weight I've lost. Cheat for someone else doesn't mean a cheat for you.
Your last post says it all...."I have felt great today and barely hungry compared to my high carb lifestyle before". Yep...you are so on the right track!!

Every body is different and has different needs and different things that will work for them. I always tell people that the keto, under 30g of carbs works best for me. On a basic Atkins diet, I don't lose much weight. But that's me. For you, it may not work the same. So take time to figure out what works for you. If something isn't working, then tweak it to see if you can adjust it to your own body's needs. And never listen to Judgy McJudgersons.1

I lost my weight doing 40-80 carbs per day, mostly. Took a year and a half to lose 11kg, so it was slow. But it worked for me. Also, this group is called Low Carbers' Daily Forum, not Keto, for that very reason. Keep at it and you will sort it out to work for you. Good luck!1
