Do I have the basics of LCHF correct?

Hello - I just joined the group and have recently (2 weeks ago) started trying to follow the LCHF way of eating. I'm trying to do about 60% fat, 25% carb & 15% protein. Is this anywhere near where I should be? I have lost about 7 lbs so far but am wondering if this is a good guideline. My Dr. says I should increase the protein & lower the fat. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hiya, have you read the launch pad, loads of helpful stuff on there.
Personally speaking I would lower the carbs and increase the protein slightly - definitely don't lower the fat, one of the things about LC is that fat is not your enemy, your body will actually use it to fuel your body rather than Carbs - but it does all depend on whether you are aiming for Ketogenic diet or just lower carbs. I know I feel so much better with very low carbs but it is all an experiment to find what works best for you.
There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on here that will be able to advise you better1 -
I mean, if it's working, you're feeling good and hunger and cravings are under control, then stick with it.
I would check to see if that protein level is appropriate for your activity level though. It may be low, but it also may not be...
There are Keto calculators in the launch pad info to help calculate macros.
Keep in mind they are set to a default 20g of carbs, which is lower than what your current level is. You can just change that manually though. You don't have to use the default.
I would just use it at this point to check what amount of protein is recommended for you.0 -
If your weight is in pounds, multiply it by 0.6 to get the minimum and 1.0 to get the maximum amount of protein in grams you should eat each day. Get at least the minimum daily protein requirements. The maximum would be for an athlete. Your protein requirement will stay constant no matter if you are wanting to lose or maintain weight. Just play with your macros a bit so that the % of protein equals out to the grams you need each day.
The other macros you can play with to see what works best for you. I stay at 20g or less of carbs and fill the rest with fat. You don't ever HAVE to meet a percentage of fat requirement. It is just for satiety. If you are hungry, increase the fat and lower the carbs until you find your happy place.
Hope that helps. Here is a calculator I personally like if you need help http://ketodietapp.com/Blog/page/KetoDiet-Buddy2 -
I've been doing 6-5% carbs, 15-19% protein, and 75-80% fat and never had an issue with lower protein. But I'm also diabetic and sedentary.1
