Ketosis at 87g carbs????

I've done keto in the past but struggled with exhaustion and finding a good electrolytes balance yet the weight loss was fairly effortless. I felt amazing doing the Whole30 but the weight loss was soooooooo. I decided to try and combine the two so I am currently on day 3 following the Primal Blueprint following the carbohydrate curve of 50-100g of net carbs a day for weight loss.

Anyways today is day 3. Both days have been under 87g total carbs. Today I woke up with the acetone taste on my mouth. Could I really be in ketosis with that many carbs? I stat relatively active with our garden and chickens and kids and dogs but other than that I haven't started an exercise program yet. I plan to start body beast or hammer & chisel in the next day or two.

Depending on your activity level, maybe. My self imposed carb ceiling is 25g net but I am quite active so I know my body would do okay with double that.

    Everybody is different.

100 grams seems to be solid ceiling when it comes to ketosis. Most seem to be able to do it at 50 grams of carbs but some report they have to go lower. Getting fat burning adapted is the main step it seems.

My goal isn't to be in ketosis anyways. I just want the benefits of the major reduction in cravings being lower carb yet I want to not have to rely on perfect electrolyte balance by having my carb levels higher than I had before (20g). I was just super surprised and shocked to have the acetone breath this morning

The more physically active you are...the faster the body uses excess sugar. But only intense activity dips into muscle glycogen. Even when keto adapted...the body never forgets spending glucose as primary fuel.

So if you're a very sedentary person or get injuries that change activity level...I'd lower carb intake. To OP, congrats at that activity level it sounds like your body burns off more carbs :)

Carbs are not created equal either. Carbs from vegs and carbs from grains or sugar are two very different reactions even at the same carb count, IME.

Nutrional Ketosis is highly individual. And it's a moving target. We all have to experiment and find our sweet spots.
