What we saw on our walk...

I think there used to be a scenery thread with what people were seeing on their walks, runs, and bike rides but I can't find it. I thought I'd start another.

I took my boys up a small mountain about 40 minutes west of us. It was 600m up and about 15km round trip. They did great! It was their first summit ever. Just at the edge of the tree line. <3

Down the Bow Valley behind them is Canmore, and then Banff.

Happily, no bears in this area. :)

There is a silty, blue mountain lake at the base that they and the dog played in afterwards. Perfect for cooling sore feet. (And arthritic knees. Ooooh)

Anyone else want to share pretty local or vacation spots they walked, rode or ran through?

@anewlifeat40 I love that area of BC. Love it! My MIL is on the island and my aunt lives on the Sunshine coast. We usually try to vacation out there. I miss vacationing too. LOL

@Sunny_Bunny_ Love that selfie. You two are so cute! Florida looks lovely It seems so foreign to me. When I go to the ocean it's on the NW coast so lots of mountains. Florida is so... low. Beautiful.

@PaleoInScotland Scotland looks amazing. I'd love to visit it one day.

@nvmomketo Lovely! This year is the first time in the past 4 years or so that we didn't go to Can more for a week as our family vacay. I definitely missed it--hope we can get down next June. I envy you bring so close to the mountains. I'm a BC girl and I miss them!

I'm going to walk once the baby is asleep so I will post pictures later, but a couple of weeks ago I literally got stopped in my tracks by these...

You all need to stop posting these pics. With Trump striding toward victory you will only encourage mor Americans to flood out shores! LOL!

@sarahthes Evil geese... I remember being chased by a goose once along the river pathway. It's flapping and hissing and at first I am laughing but the damn thing wouldn't back off. I turned once to face it and the stupid thing just got closer! I swear it chased me for a full block! LOL

Your walking route looks very nice. My boys would have loved those fountains and ponds.

Oh, that is lovely! Is it in a town or city park or away from it all?

Snort. He and Trudeau can trade hair and selfie tips. Couple of preening, dumb, grumble grumble grumble....

We need to buy a small island and make our own country. Away from politicians. Far away.

Such a beautiful view yesterday, skipping rocks and finding fossils....did I do this right?

Apparently not, can someone please instruct me? I have so many things I'd love to share and don't know how....

Nevermind....it's not supported by Android, otherwise need to jump through hoops....sorry for the wasted post, fellows.

Pretty close - we live about 35 min from this beach.

@anglyn1That looks like such a peaceful spot. Lovely.
The mention of bears reminded me of a joke our guide told us while hiking in Glacier National Park, where hikers are urged to attach jingle bells to their backpacks to let the local populace know you're approaching.

Q: How can you tell the difference between grizzly bear droppings and black bear droppings?

A: The grizzly bear droppings has bells in it.

    LOL So true.
On later hikes in the summer, we did go near some bear areas. We go in large groups to scare away bears, so our biggest challenge is keeping the kids together in a clump. After we found a disturbingly large pile of bear scat and some relatively new bear excavations (they dig up large stuff - yikes) the boys finally stayed a bit better clumped up. LOL

On that same hike my youngest two almost deafened themselves with bear bangers. I left them in the car while I dropped off a cousin's dog that we'd brought along, and I had the bear bangers in front coffee holder (take apart and not loaded). When I cam back you could amell the gunpowder in the car from the bangers. They had "accidentally" set it off but thankfully it had malfunctioned so they still had their hearing. Turkeys.

Pretty spot. Impressive balancing. I've never been able to bablance more than 5 rocks, and those are flatter sandstone rocks.

@nvmomketo he had stacks all up and down the beach, probably a 300 yard stretch. Stacks of big rocks like those, stacks of tiny ones, just everywhere. Maybe 25-30 stacks. It was pretty cool.

Vancouver has that too. People are constantly building them. it is neat. Being away from the ocean, we just get the flatter inukshuk style. i'm not good at making those either. LOL

Right now I am staying away from the trails near my place because we had a cougar stalk a woman & her dog yesterday and they can cover a lot of territory. Love staying/hiking in Canmore/Kananaskis. Seems like the past few years we were there a couple times a year for vacay. ACC has a job posting right now if anyone is in commute distance to Canmore.... just sayin'. Here's shots from a winery cycle tour that I set up for DH & I and 2 low carb friends from Washington State.

@SuperCarLori , to post a picture use the icon that looks like a piece of paper with the corner turned down, choose your image after that. It took me forever to figure some of this stuff out!

    Love the pictures everybody! Beautiful!
