Hi. I have been doing this for 3 days now
Spent about a month researching and have read the great info on the launch pad.
Type 2 diabetic that used to control with diet and exercise but now wayyyyy off the wagon. Waiting to get in with doc
I would love to be able to see some food diaries to get ideas. I am having a hard time staying under 40 total carbs and still get enough veg as well as a decent variety. Also falling short on fiber.
Thanks

Fiber is not necessary, and can even compound things when going low carb. Fats are the lubricant for waste disposal processes. A very few people feel better on fiber, but even most with IBS and such feel better with out it...
I don't really log anymore - it's kind of in my head, but I'm happy to answer questions if you have any. Back in February this year and last I logged somewhat consistently.
40 grams NET carbs should allow you to subtract fiber values only in order to allow for more non-starchy veggies. Are you aiming for nutritional ketosis or just low carb for health? Some folks find a good carb zone up to 100 grams of carbs or even 150 carbs with exercise included for overall health, as long as avoiding mostly sugar and grains. Some of our folks here even do slow carbing, rather than explicitly low carbing. Ketosis is not "necessary" so to speak, but **CAN** work better for some people. My personal preference is to identify the highest carb level and calorie level at which you will gain health, feel better, and lose weight if applicable.
There are several diabetics here who can help better with this... I'm insulin resistant, but my overall issues are extensive, and so my own personal issues and advice can be skewed toward SO NOT BEING NORMAL...
Good luck, and welcome!1 -
My diary is open but I am not a diabetic. Welcome aboard!0

Thanks for the responses. I'm not sure what I am aiming for yet. Just really hoping to avoid insulin. I picked 40 as a starting place but I was counting total rather than NET carbs. Will focus on that for a while and see what happens.
Any and all advice appreciated. Getting lots of great ideas from reading this board.1 -
My diary is open also, although I'm not diabetic either that I know of.0

There's a lot of individual variation with fiber. I for one feel better with fiber than without it. (My happy, reformed gut may not passionately adore fiber, but he at least tolerates it very well; carbs, I'm think, not so much.)

There's no reason for most people to count total carbs. Drs. Phinney and Volek believe fiber does not affect the BG of most T2Ds. Also, their popular rewrite of the Atkins diet, New Atkins for a New You, is packed with useful info and recipes, and it's easy to read.1
