Dr Jamie Hakim, a lecturer at the University of East Anglia's School of Film, Television and Media Studies, said the rise of spornosexuality is a response to the economic changes brought about by austerity.

He said: 'Austerity has eroded young men's traditional means of value creation so they have become increasingly reliant on their bodies as a means of feeling valuable in society.

'One of the most interesting aspects of this development is the power shift of a segment of society who have historically defined themselves through their mind, whilst at the same time defining those they have subordinated - women, gay and working-class people - through their bodies.
'The former group has historically been employed as high-paid decision-makers, whilst the latter have had to rely on their bodies for low or no pay work, such as manual and domestic labour, slavery and sex work.

Dr Hakim said: 'In the past certain type of men have had to rely on their bodies but with less opportunities in austerity Britain we are seeing the middle class as well as working classing it

Able to relate to trying to make money off of my body? Not in the slightest. No one would pay to see my nasty naked *kitten* do anything, other than put clothes back on.

That being said, if anything, the culture has shifted the wrong way from where it was between 1890 and the 1980s, and today. As an example: strength sports have completely dried up in terms of popularity. There was once a time when a guy who could juggle *kitten* iron triangles that most of us couldn't even pick up, could make a decent living out of it. Now? It's just an expensive hobby to feed. I know people who still have old VHS recordings of top end powerlifting meets, shown on national TV from the late 70s and early 80s. When was the last time you saw anyone outside of said sports actually give a *kitten* about them?

No, what we have here, is a bunch of betas, who are likely as insecure in their looks as they are in their job prospects, convincing themselves that looking and being are one and the same. Nothing more.

The story seems like inflammatory rubbish

    Sex workers and slavery? Seriously

I don't see the rise of women in our society as recognized more for all the contribute as eroding the self esteem of any confident person, regardless of gender

I happen to enjoy the company of empowered women. It has been great IMO!!!

Thank you for sharing. I actually found this interesting. I also believe I see some of this phenomenon when I look at the postings on Facebook from some of the younger men I know; relatives and my son's friends.

Seems more like a correlation than a causation:
"the rise corresponds to a similar surge in the popularity of social media in general"

But who cares why, I'm delighted to munch on the eye candy whatever the root cause!

That article is pretty silly. It's a well known psychological phenomenon that when any human being has their power and control taken away in one area of their life, they will try to reassert that power and control in another area. It's normal and healthy survival behavior.
